We’ve all tweeted or uploaded a post before that we later decided to take down. For one reason or another. Unfortunately, celebrities don’t get the luxury of taking things down before too many people see it. Let’s revisit moments where some celebrities got caught posting something and later deleted it or their entire accounts.

Sexxy Red is one of the latest celebrities to delete an X post, but not before it was screenshotted by someone else. The 26-year-old rapper, who some consider problematic due to her raunchy raps, shared an AI photo of her and the late civil rights activist Martin Luther King Jr., slow dancing. The photo was shared in honor of Martin Luther King Jr. Day. But King’s daughter, Bernice King, commented on the X post, asking Red to delete it.

She said, “This is intentionally dishonoring, deplorable, and disrespectful of my family and my father, who is not here to respond himself because he was assassinated for working for your civil and human rights and to end war and poverty. Please delete.”

Before deleting, Sexxy Red responded.

“You ain’t wrong, never meant to disrespect your family my apologies. Just resposted something I saw that I thought was innocent.”

2. Ari Lennox, 33

Ari Lennox is one singer with a tough relationship with social media. So much so that last October, she announced she would be deleting her accounts.

The “Shea Butter Baby” singer is no stranger to wearing her heart on her sleeve online. Back in 2022, she recalled an emotional moment she experienced in Ghana. But the post didn’t go over well with her fans. She wrote, “Yea Ghana is the most beautiful country in the world.”

She then followed up with, “I’ll never forget suddenly crying the first time going to a beach in Ghana. It was so triggering. And I didn’t feel alone. My heart ached/aches for my ancestors. It was a surreal experience.”

While most felt the post was harmless, some users made fun of Lennox. They even questioned whether her ancestors were from Ghana.

The Dreamville artist eventually deleted the posts.

By now, most know that Megan Thee Stallion is off the market. Before it was officially confirmed, she gave a hint that she had a new boo with a post-delete video.

In August, she shared a video of her doing TikTok’s “Most Likely Challenge: Couples Edition” with NBA star Torrey Craig.

The video asks a series of questions like “who’s the better kisser” or “who said I love you first.” Each person follows up by pointing to the person they believe best fits the prompt.

It appears Megan got cold feet about the video because she quickly deleted it afterwards. But the two are still going strong in their relationship.

Keke Palmer, who many have watched grow up on screen, is now a proud mother of one. She welcomed her son, Leodis Andrellton Jackson, with her ex-boyfriend Darius Jackson in February 2023.

But back in 2019, she revealed that she had once been pregnant before but terminated the pregnancy due to timing. The tweet came following the news that Alabama passed a law that effectively banned abortions.

She said, “I was worried about my career responsibilities and afraid that I could not exist as both a career woman and mother.”

After deleting the post, she explained, “Twitter is sometimes too flat and too short to express intimate sentiments. Words without context, very annoying. I am disheartened about hearing the news in Alabama. I feel as if women rights laws are going backwards. Individual choice is being taken. I’m truly so confused at the world [right now] and the policies that follow.”

5. Cardi B, 32

If there is one celebrity who does not back down from sticking up for herself, it’s Cardi B. But even the toughest people need a break sometimes, and that moment for Cardi came in 2019.

That year, BET pissed off both Cardi B and her nemesis Nicki Minaj with a shady post comparing the two. After Cardi won a Grammy for Best Rap Album, BET reacted.

A now-deleted tweet from BET posted in February 2019, read, “Meanwhile, Nicki Minaj is being dragged by her lace front.”

Nicki Minaj’s fan base, the Barbs, and Minaj herself went off. The Barbs, in support of their Queen, went on to attack Cardi B and her rap skills.

Cardi responded to the backlash on Instagram.

“It’s not my style for people to put other people down to uplift somebody else,” she said. “That’s not my style and that’s not what I’m with. I don’t support that. However, I’ve been taking a lot of sh*t today. I’m seeing a lot of bullsh*t today and I saw a lot of sh*t last night, and I’m sick of this sh*t. I work hard for my motherf*cking album.”

She followed up by deleting her account.

Speaking of Nicki Minaj, she’s had her fair share of moments of calling people out. Back in 2017, she posted a screenshot of iTunes’ Top 10 charting Hip Hop/Rap songs. Out of the 10, only two were songs that were created by Black artists. One of the other eight featured 21 Savage, but it was a Post Malone Song.

Minaj captioned the screenshot, “It’s a great time to be a white rapper in America, huh?”

Many took the comment as shady. Some even felt it was meant to raise awareness of the lack of recognition of Black artists in the genre.

Minaj also added, “These are the top 10 rap songs on U.S. iTunes. Shout out to Em and Post, two of my faves. Congrats to Em on his new album. Motorsport put that thing in sport.”

She later deleted the post.

7. Lizzo, 36

Lizzo has had to tussle online with her internet trolls before – mainly over body shaming her. But there was once a moment when she had to delete a tweet over a misunderstanding about rappers Swae Lee and Future.

The backlash started with her initial response to people questioning her ability to rap.

“Sometimes I get pissed that there are people who call future & swae lee rappers and still question whether or not I belong in the rap conversation. But then I remember I have the #4 song in the country, laugh, go back to my dream job and log off.”

Fans of both of the men attempted to come at Lizzo for trying to compare her talents to the two artists.

Deleting the initial tweet, she clarified later on that it was not a diss.

She said, “I LOVE future & swae bruhhhhhh… the point went straight over y’alls heads…I’m just saying we all share a similar rap sing style…

Stream ‘Sunflower’ by Swae Lee

Stream ‘The Wizrd’ by Future.”

8. Ye, 47
Rolling Loud California 2024

Ye formerly known as Kanye West is no stranger to controversy.

He’s had issues with the Jewish community after spewing antisemitic comments. Even his relationship with Adidas has been publicly soured. Other times, his problems were more personal and related to his ex-wife Kim Kardashian.

The two wed in 2014 and welcomed four children together before divorcing in 2022. Previous to that, the two were separated and Kardashian began dating Pete Davidson. This led to Ye harassing the Saturday Night Live comedian with a number of Instagram posts in protest of the relationship.

In 2022, over several weeks, he uploaded posts attacking Davidson on Instagram. This came after saying he wanted to beat “Pete Davidson’s a–” in his song “Eazy.” He even shared texts he received from Kardashian warning him that if Davidson were harmed it would be his fault.

But it was his post about Davidson following his and Kardashian’s breakup that garnered even more attention. He uploaded a photo of a photoshopped New York Times paper. The headline read “Skete Davidson Dead At 28.”

After reports of Kardashian being upset over this, he deleted it and several other posts about Davidson.

9. Queen Naija, 29

R&B singer Queen Naija recently deleted an X post after sharing a perspective that sparked a debate.

A few days before TikTok was banned for just 12 hours, she shared what she thought was a positive take. On X she said, “I feel like TikTok being gone will open doors back up for artists who make REAL music.”

Since its inception in 2016, TikTok has become well-known for improving lives for many of its users, including musicians. But there have been debates on whether these artists deserve the same credit as others just by getting famous from one viral song. Some feel TikTok artists haven’t put in the same amount of work that others have to gain overnight success.

10. Sean “Diddy” Combs, 55

Sean “Diddy” Combs, most recently known as “Brother Love,” has been condemned by much of the public. He is currently incarcerated in a Brooklyn detention facility after being charged with racketeering conspiracy, sex trafficking, and transportation to engage in prostitution last fall.

In June 2024, he scrubbed his entire Instagram of posts after settling his lawsuit with ex-girlfriend Cassie Ventura in November 2023. Ventura accused Combs of rape, sex trafficking, and physical abuse. This was just the beginning of his downfall. He has since been accused of sexual abuse and has several ongoing lawsuits.

Since being incarcerated, his children have taken control of his Instagram account. He currently has just eight posts, which feature his children and his old music videos.
