2024 was the year of love for some celebrities. Model Chanel Iman married NFL player Davon Godchaux. Yvette Nicole Brown said “I do” to her fiancé Anthony Davis. Legendary singer Usher even got married to his long-time girlfriend Jennifer Goicoechea in Las Vegas. Some celebrities may not have tied the knot just yet, but they have taken steps in that direction. Here are some couples that got engaged this year.

Jonathan Majors and Megan Good have been full of surprises since getting together. They first shocked the world back in 2023 when they announced that they were dating. Good stood by the Lovecraft Country star as he was on trial for a domestic dispute that took place with his ex-girlfriend Grace Jabbari. Then they dropped a bombshell at this year’s EBONY Power 100 Gala in November, sharing that they had gotten engaged.

P-Valley co-stars Tyler Lepley and Miracle Watts revealed that they too got engaged. They both shared photos and videos of the intimate proposal on Instagram. Lepley and Watts had been dating for over three years before deciding to take their relationship to the next level. They also welcomed their first child together, Xi Leì, in 2022 – making Watts a first-time mom. Lepley has two other children, Leo and Jade, from a previous relationship with April King.

After signing on with the Philadelphia Eagles in 2020, Jalen Hurts has notably been a sight for sore eyes for many fans. But many of those fans were collectively heartbroken when it was revealed that the quarterback was a taken man. He had been dating his college sweetheart Bryonna Burrows. Fans quickly noticed Burrows rocking a shiny ring on her finger at the Eagles vs. Green Bay Packers game on Sept. 6. A week later, the couple confirmed the news.

It looks like the second time around really is better than the first time for Ashanti and Nelly. The pair were one of the silent “it” couples in the early 2000s for about a decade. After calling it quits in 2013, there was no real signs that the two would ever double back. But an infamous hug from Nelly at a 2021 Verzuz led the two to becoming reacquainted with one another. They reunited as a couple, and by April 2024, they announced that they were engaged. Not only that but Ashanti was also pregnant with their first child together. Several media outlets reported that public records show the couple had quietly tied the knot already in December 2023.

Comedian and actors Eddie Murphy and Martin Lawrence are soon to become family…legally. Murphy’s son Eric Murphy, and Lawrence’s daughter Jasmine Lawrence, announced their engagement on Instagram on Nov. 30. The two were dating for about three years after they both went Instagram official in 2021. Both of their legendary fathers have been supportive of the couple’s relationship. Lawrence joked that his Boomerang co-star said he would have to pay for the wedding. Four months before their engagement, Murphy told Gayle King on CBS Mornings that he has high expectations for their baby if the pair ever have one.

He said, “If they ever get married and have a child, I’m expecting the child to be funny.”

6. Dwight Howard and Amy Luciani

Dwight Howard is usually on the quieter side about his romantic life. But since his recent engagement to Love and Hip Hop Atlanta star Amy Luciani, he’s been a bit more vocal. Luciani’s co-star Scrappy initially announced the news by posting a video of the two slow dancing. On it he wrote, “@dwighthoward & my sis @amylucianiworld dne tied the niznyee.”

They both took to their own social media pages on Dec. 20 to confirm their engagement. It’s not clear when the two started dating, but according to both of their pages they seem to be very much in love.
