Lawrence and Lyne Stevens shared the incredible story of their long-distance courtship on this episode of Dear Future Wifey. The newlyweds reflected on their journey, from meeting on TikTok and how it led to marriage after just a handful of dates. The husband and wife now lead their own ministry focused on helping singles, couples, and newlyweds love through faith. They sat down with Dear Future Wifey host Laterras R. Whitfield to tell their unconventional love story.

The couple lived worlds apart when they first connected on social media.

When they met, Lyne was living in London and Lawrence in New Jersey. Even with more than 3,000 miles separating them, the two discovered plenty of common ground early on. He was a former D1 football player who was building a relationship with God and she was a secular-turned-gospel artist who caught his eye on TikTok.

They shared similar and powerful testimonies of leaving behind a “worldly lifestyle of drugs, fornication, secular music, and depression,” to committing to a “Kingdom lifestyle of repentance and obedience in God.”

“It was amazing, because her testimony was very similar to mine,” said Lawrence. “Once God delivers us from those things, there’s no shame. It’s like, yeah, this is where I once was, and this is where I am today. For her to be so transparent and open, I was very open from the very beginning too.”

The couple moved with purpose from day one.

Lyne and Lawrence were transparent about what they were seeking from day one. “There’s a vision. That’s why the long distance was okay because we knew that at some point, there’s an end goal for this. We’re not just dating for no reason,” said Lyne.

“For the both of us, it was about seeking God from the very beginning,” Lawrence added.

Lyne described her reaction to Lawrence saying “I love you” less than a month into the talking phase. “That scared me a little bit, not gonna lie,” she said. “At the same time, it gave me a sense of peace. Like okay, he’s actually being intentional and humble about it. There’s no pride in the way … He was very consistent with it.”

The two experienced their share of situationships, but they knew that this time was different. “Peace is a big thing for me. I was in toxic relationships. And I told God, my next one is peace, peace, peace,” said Lyne.

Eight months in, the couple met in person. “It was amazing. It was a lot of emotions, honestly,” said Lawrence. They met five more times after that, traveling between the U.S. and Europe, before they said “I do.”

The happy couple is now settling into married life in the U.S.

The couple shared what they have learned as newlyweds about each other and themselves.

Lyne shared that marriage has been a lesson in allowing her husband to carry the household through this season, after being single and independent for so long. She’s currently moving through the lengthy green card process, which prevents her from working and earning income. “I think God put me in that position as well … because he wants me to be able to put my pride down and allow Lawrence to be a leader and a provider,” she said.

Built on a strong foundation, the Stevens are forging ahead with their ministry and sharing the gospel. They recognize that communication is key, and don’t allow disagreements to get too deep. “It’s us against evil, right? Not one against each other,” said Lyne.
