According to a recent survey published by EduBirdie on Oct. 2, Gen-Zers and young millennials are turning to astrology to guide their search for the perfect partner, ideal career, and major life decisions.
Data from the surprising survey revealed that astrology plays a significant role in the lives of young Americans, with 58% checking their horoscopes at least weekly and 72% using it to guide major life decisions. Many individuals see astrology as beneficial to their careers, with 63% believing it has had a positive impact. Interestingly, some respondents mentioned that they consulted astrology when evaluating job offers and researching company leaders to determine if they would be a good fit for the organization.
In the realm of dating, 45% seek astrological advice, and a notable 31% wouldn’t date someone whose star sign they deem incompatible while 21% have experienced breakups attributed to zodiac differences. To avoid heartbreak, 74% of Gen-Zers and millennials often check a potential partner’s zodiac sign ahead of time to avoid “wasting time on incompatible matches,” the study noted.
Despite 42% acknowledging a reliance on astrology and 31% feeling anxious about it, a majority—65%—find that it helps reduce stress and boost confidence, indicating a generally positive perception of its influence.

Young millennials and Gen-Zers protect themselves during Mercury retrograde.
Elsewhere, the EduBirdie noted that young folks are taking extra precautions to safeguard themselves during the notoriously turbulent Mercury retrograde. The astrological phenomenon occurs when the planet Mercury appears to move backward in its orbit from our perspective on Earth. This optical illusion happens about three to four times a year, lasting for about three weeks each time.
Astrologically, Mercury retrograde is often associated with communication breakdowns, misunderstandings, travel delays, and technology issues. Many people believe it’s a time to be cautious about making major decisions or starting new projects. However, it’s also seen as a good opportunity for reflection, reviewing past work, and tying up loose ends. While the concept is rooted in astrology and not supported by scientific evidence, it has become a popular topic in pop culture.
During Mercury retrograde, 62% of young workers go out of their way to avoid disruption, whether backing up important documents (15%), creating a relaxing environment (37%), or setting flexible deadlines (24%). However, for 12%, trying to deal with the stress and struggle the event brings isn’t worth the trouble—so they stay in bed and call in sick, the EduBirdie survey noted.
