Do These Exercises For A Better Sex Life, Health Experts Say
Do These Exercises For A Better Sex Life, According To Health Experts
Sex offers more than just pleasure and enjoyment. In a new article published by New York Times, health experts highlight that there are significant health benefits associated with an active sex life. In fact, regular exercise can enhance your bedroom performance and contribute to overall well-being.
“As far as your muscles are concerned, sex is just another workout. And like most workouts, the more conditioned you are, the more enjoyable it can be,” the article notes.
Health experts assert that a consistent fitness routine significantly benefits your sex life by keeping your body energized and performing at its best. Beyond enhancing pleasure, a healthy and active sex life can address issues that may interfere with enjoyment in the bedroom, such as erectile dysfunction, pain during intercourse, and low libido among other concerns.

Here are some moves to add to your fitness routine for a better sex life, according to health experts.
There are several workout regimens that could have a profound impact on your overall health and sex life like high-intensity cardio, also known as high-intensity interval training (HIIT).
It is a form of cardiovascular exercise that involves alternating between short bursts of intense activity and periods of lower-intensity recovery or rest, according to Healthline. During the high-intensity phases, you engage in exercises that elevate your heart rate significantly, often reaching 80-90% of your maximum heart rate, for brief intervals typically ranging from 20 seconds to a few minutes. This is followed by recovery periods where you either perform low-intensity exercises or rest completely, allowing your heart rate to come down slightly before the next burst of intensity.
HIIT workouts are generally shorter than traditional steady-state cardio exercises but are highly effective for improving cardiovascular fitness, burning calories and improving oxygen consumption, Healthline notes. They can incorporate a range of exercises, including running, cycling, and bodyweight movements such as burpees and jumping jacks. Research indicates that for some individuals aerobic exercise—a type of high-intensity cardio—can also stimulate arousal.
“It’s important to remember that sex is movement, and it’s exercise,” Debby Herbenick, director of the Center for Sexual Health Promotion at the Indiana University School of Public Health, told the New York Times.

Kegels are king for pelvic pain.
To enhance pleasure and alleviate pelvic pain—an issue affecting 10-20% of women during sex, according to recent studies—consider incorporating kegel exercises into your routine. Kegel exercises are designed to strengthen the pelvic floor muscles, which support the bladder, intestines, and, in women, the uterus. To perform kegels, you must tighten the muscles of the pelvic floor, as if you’re trying to stop the flow of urine midstream. Once located, you contract these muscles, hold the contraction for a few seconds, and then relax.
The process is typically repeated in sets of 10 to 15 repetitions, several times a day. Regular practice of kegels can improve muscle tone and control in the pelvic floor, leading to benefits such as reduced urinary incontinence, enhanced sexual satisfaction, and support in recovery from childbirth or prostate surgery, the Cleveland Clinic notes.

For both men and women, maintaining a consistent kegel routine is crucial for maximizing these health benefits. Dr. Janelle Howell, a pelvic floor specialist based in Chicago, advises women to imagine an elevator gently moving up and down to promote complete muscle relaxation. For men, she suggests tightening the pelvic floor muscles, holding the contraction for three seconds, and then relaxing for the same duration, the article noted.
Improving hip mobility can also lead to smoother, more comfortable movement throughout the lower body and may reduce pelvic discomfort during intercourse. Additionally, strengthening your core and practicing yoga daily can further support overall health and contribute to a more satisfying sex life, according to the New York Times.
