As the world slowly puts its cannabis guard down, there’s one group that could benefit greatly: women who aren’t orgasming. New research has shown that partaking in a bit of the green stuff before doing the deed can increase desire and the chances of orgasm – particularly for women. This is huge news for women who have suffered from blue ovaries for years due to unsatisfying sex. It’s no secret that men have a much (like much) easier time climaxing than women. But even if your partners have been letting you down, the medical community has been on the case of helping women reach the big O more. Here’s what we know about how cannabis can lead to better sex for women.

A Quick Look At The Study

The study on how cannabis impacts sexual satisfaction was first published in the Journal of Cannabis Research. It examined over 800 diverse individuals from ages 18 to 85. Within that group was a mixture of sexual orientations, gender, cannabis preferences and professions. Everyone in the group had used cannabis at some point. Here are the highlights of the study:

  • 70 percent of the respondents said pre-sex cannabis increased their chances of orgasm
  • 62 percent reported that cannabis boosted their pleasure during masturbation
  • The results were consistent across age groups, gender and sexual orientation

The Physical Benefits Of Cannabis And Sex

The study is pretty convincing – cannabis makes you cum. So we did a deeper dive into why exactly cannabis makes sex better, and the reasons are layered. Let’s start with the physical benefits.

First, according to The Handbook of Experimental Pharmacology, cannabis increases blood flow, including to the genitals, which can help a woman reach orgasm. It also enhances the senses all over the body. Unlike alcohol, which can actually numb the senses, weed makes you feel everything more intensely. So that kiss on the back of your neck or those fingers on your thighs – you have a heightened awareness of all of it after using cannabis.

The implications of enhanced senses go beyond sexual touch. Everything is more alive on cannabis. Candles smell better. Flavored lube tastes sweeter. Music sounds more beautiful. So, partaking in a little cannabis even leading into foreplay can make every part of the experience more vibrant.

The Emotional Benefits Of Cannabis And Sex

One of the most powerful benefits of cannabis when it comes to sex is actually all in your head – literally. Cannabis has been proven to lower inhibitions. And that does wonders for one’s sex life.

When your inhibitions are lowered, you might finally feel comfortable asking for what you want in bed – what would actually get you off. So whether there’s a kink you’ve been keeping from your partner, or you’re interested in role-play, cannabis can help you express those desires.

Cannabis also helps you be more present. You’ve probably noticed how worries about emails or taxes float away when you’re high. When you’re fully present, you feel more connected to your partner. And emotional connection is important for a lot of women when it comes to sexual pleasure.

There’s one last incredible benefit of using cannabis before sex: it can help survivors of sexual assault enjoy sex more. A study out of Washington State University published in ScienceDaily found that cannabis can temporarily relieve symptoms of PTSD. This means women who struggle to enjoy sex due to flashbacks or disassociation might finally find their way back to enjoying physical intimacy with their partner.

There are a few ways you can incorporate cannabis into your sex life. Whichever one you choose, just make sure to start small if you’re new to the substance. Five to 10 milligrams is an ideal dose for the cannabis novice.

If you want to feel high: Smoke it or eat it. Smoke it for a shorter high, or try edibles if you’re looking for a longer-lasting effect (like for an all-night romp session).

If you don’t want to feel high: If you do not want a head high, but do want the physical benefits of cannabis on certain parts of your body, you can try a topical like a CBD oil or lotion.
