Moaning, screaming, heavy breathing or even the classic “Oh I forgot to turn the oven off” face, are some of the familiar sounds and looks of an orgasm. But, while many orgasms appear the same to an onlooker, the subjective experience of the person having the orgasm is very different from one individual to the next. And that’s because there are several types of orgasms.
Orgasms can have a number of health benefits, as MADAMENOIRE has discussed. And if you can tap into all of the different kinds of orgasms, then you can find new ways to get all the perks that come with the big O. So if the typical intercourse orgasm isn’t happening for you, here’s great news: there are so many other ways to climax. Here’s a look at the different types of orgasms.
Clitoral Orgasm

The clitoral orgasm comes from stimulation of the clitoris. As one of the most sensitive parts of the female anatomy, the clitoris is the “magic button” for a lot of women when it comes to orgasms. In fact, according to the Journal of Sex & Marital Therapy, nearly 37 percent of women require clitoral stimulation to reach orgasm. Clitoral orgasms happen in different ways for different women, because everyone’s body is different. So for some, repeated tapping or pushing on the clitoris does the trick. For others, it’s all about oral. But because this orgasm happens outside of the vagina, it’s mostly felt on the surface – instead of inside the vagina.

Vaginal orgasms – sometimes called G-sport orgasms – happen when there is repeated pulsating and pressure on the inner vaginal canal. Orgasms happen here often when the G-spot, which sits about two inches inside the vagina on the front of the canal, is stimulated. Vaginal orgasms can happen through penile intercourse, fingering or through the use of toys.
Blended Orgasm

A blended orgasm is one of the strongest types of orgasms. It occurs when a woman achieves both a vaginal and clitoral orgasm at the same time. This is that orgasm that gets your whole body trembling with pleasure and gets you weak in the knees. This type of O requires stimulation of the clitoris during some sort of vaginal penetration. Using a clitoral vibrator during intercourse is a great way to achieve a blended orgasm.
Skin Orgasm

Skin orgasms are not technically sexual, but they are pleasurable. If you’ve ever felt a pleasant feeling of chills, tingles, or both all over your body at once, that’s known as a skin orgasm or “skingasm.” Sometimes part of a song or a particularly relaxing sound can create a skingasm. ASMR, which MADAMENOIRE explains in detail here, might result in skingasms. Sometimes, during partner play, when someone simply touches, blows on or plays with a non-sexual part of your body like your ears or the back of your neck, you might experience a skingasm.
Anal Orgasm

Your anus and rectum are only separated from the vagina and clitoris by a very thin stretch of skin. For this reason, there are a lot of overlapping nerve endings and sensations there that are activated during anal sex and anal play. Additionally, the pelvic floor can be stimulated during anal sex for women, which can trigger an orgasm.
A Full-Vaginal Orgasm

There is no official term for this orgasm, but it pertains to an orgasm that occurs when multiple highly sensitive areas inside of the vagina are stimulated. While the G-spot is well known, there are plenty of other important O-inducing spots in the vagina that aren’t discussed as often. One is the A-spot, which sits high up in the vagina, right under the cervix, and in the front of the vaginal canal. Then there’s the O-spot, which is at the back of the vagina, practically at the rear of the cervix. There are clusters of extremely sensitive nerves at these spots that can bring a woman to orgasm.
Nipple Orgasm

Nipple orgasms are more anecdotal than scientifically proven. However, because orgasms can be highly mental for women, it’s no surprise that stimulation of a sensitive area – even far from the vagina – might bring a woman to orgasm. And there are accounts of women reaching the big O through caressing or kissing of the breasts and particularly the nipples, as these are full of nerve endings.
