Chris and Paige, MAFS

Every week, I assume that Chris will have run out of ways to embarrass Paige. Yet, every week she returns to him and I’m proven wrong. See how he managed to pull it off this week and check in with the other couples and their problems–which all seem to pale in comparison.

Get into below and on the following pages.

Erik and Virginia

When Dr. Viviana came to visit these two they had a discussion about the differences in their beliefs. Erik is more conservative, like Virginia’s dad, and she is more liberal. Erik hasn’t expounded too much on what those beliefs might be. But there was talk about LGBTQ+ issues at the wedding. And Virginia has shared that her sister is gay.

What’s most concerning about their difference in beliefs is that Erik is under the impression that it’s only a problem for Virginia. Bruh. If you don’t believe people deserve the same rights and opportunities as you, because they are different then the problem is indeed yours.

Another thing that worried me is the fact that Erik said so crassly that if Virginia decides she doesn’t want children—a journey she said she’s 50-50 on, then he’s out. So immature. She always said she would be willing to talk about it. And perhaps after just three weeks, she’s not entirely sure she wants to raise children with someone like Erik or not. Give sis some time. The one bright spot was that he did seem to understand why her own childhood affected her thoughts on children. Relax! Erik is a man. He can have children for several years. And Virginia is still young enough that she has some time to make up her mind.

Jacob and Haley

It’s painful to watch these two at this point. Haley has completely shut down. Jake is pulling away in an effort to protect his feelings. And every week there seems to be little to no progress made. I guess you can say that they slept in the same bed. But with the experiment half way done, I would be shocked and appalled if they found a way to stay together at the end of this.

What I did appreciate was that Dr. Viviana came with some receipts for Haley’s a$$. By her own admission she intentionally searches for flaws in men and uses them as rationale to write them off. She’s certainly doing that with Jake. He hasn’t been perfect. But it’s clear Haley’s not putting in enough effort either. Dr. Viviana asked them to increase the level of physical affection with one another and sis just couldn’t do it.

Vincent and Briana

Vincent has had a rough couple of weeks. Between the champagne spill and the salsa classes, he’s come across very immature with an incredibly frail male ego. And a handful of people have written him off Thankfully, he seems a coachable to me. He listened to his friend when he laughed in his face. And in addition to Briana’s patience, Dr. Viviana had to remind him that he does not have to be perfect–because he isn’t.

We’re still rooting for these two. They’re still the most solid of the bunch.

Ryan and Clara

I think we can all agree that Ryan is a little closed off… he always gives very politician-like answers to any type of deep or uncomfortable question. And last night when he and Clara had to talk about sex more extensively than they usually do, brotha was in rare form. He couldn’t name his favorite sexual position. He completely avoided the question. I don’t know if that’s because he didn’t want to offend his Christian parents or what but it was a bit odd, considering Clara describes him as a bit closed off in the bedroom as well.

Later, when they meet with Dr. Viviana, she asked Clara if there were any chance, Ryan could be lying about his level of sexual experience—like perhaps he’s a virgin.

I was with Clara when she was talking about how sexually frustrated she’s been with Ryan. It has to annoying—particularly when you don’t know when Ryan will trust her enough to get to that place. And it’s a real trip if he’s getting off and Clara is left stuck. No Bueno. But when she said that sex has always just been sex and it’s never represented anything deeper to her, even in her relationships where she’s been in love…that’s a problem. And it makes one wonder what the block has been for her. Knowing that sex has only ever been just sex to her, I don’t know that I would be particularly gung ho about crossing that plain if I knew it wasn’t going to mean anything.

Chris and Paige

Honestly, I’m damn near tired of talking about these two. Every week Paige finds another excuse to open her heart up to Chris once again. And every week, he finds another way to piss on it. Chris says they need a reset on their marriage. But when Paige calls to speak to him, he sends her to voicemail.

I also find it particularly interesting that while he can easily ignore Paige, he always finds a way to be present when the experts are there. It’s surprising because none of them see it for him.

Dr. Viviana pointed out that Chris was not doing enough. In fact, she told him that based on the person they met during the casting process, she didn’t even know who he was. He talked about feeling too much pressure when all Paige was asking for was that there be a phone call once a day. And that’s too much. For the life of me, I can’t understand why she continues to allow this man to play in her face. Everyone sees the shenanigans but her. And every time he’s in her presence, Chris is glued to his cell phone, completely checked out. The lack of effort is glaring.

Speaking of lack of effort, Chris suggested Bible study saying that perhaps their problem was that they needed a little more Jesus in their relationship. Knowing good and well, Paige has been praying over his hellish behind from the jump. But what tripped me out was the fact that all it was was a suggestion. He didn’t prepare anything but some Harold’s chicken. We really don’t know who Chris is. This is the same man who was once going to be a minister. But it wasn’t no Biblical insight that night. And his character throughout the season does not read “man of God.”

And of course, Paige had something prepared. She talked about friendship and how that was what they needed as a foundation for their wayward marriage. Chris contributed very little–none of which was biblically based. But he did have a bombshell for her though. He wanted to let her know that he bought Mercedes, the mother of his child, a Benz because he didn’t want her to have to be without transportation when their child arrived.

Great.

At this point, nothing he does surprises me. And I wish Paige would reach this same place of numbness and check out.
