I wish I was coming to you with some better news. I wish we finally watched Paige walk away from Chris for good, embarrassing him like he has done to her so many times. But that was not what we saw last night. And at this point, it’s sounding like a broken record. And personally, the song is starting to get on my nerves. I don’t know what type of hold Chris has on her but in her prayer time with God she needs to ask to be loosed from that. But we’ll get to Ms. Paige and Mr. Chris in just a minute. In the meantime, let’s dive into what some of the other couples have going on. As they had a bit of drama of their own this week.

Haley and Jake

This week, after some prodding from her husband, Haley finally told Jacob that she “doesn’t know” if she’s attracted to him or not. He took it for what it was worth–a no. I understand that she might be trying to protect his feelings and ego but I think they’re past that. She should work on radical honesty. In the hopes that they can build from there.

Instead, she’s bought him clothes–which did look good on him. But it’s hard to accept gifts graciously when there are still unresolved issues in your relationship. It reads as an empty gesture.

Bottom line is Haley just isn’t trying hard enough. You can’t say in one breath that you want to work on your marriage and see if you and Jake can turn a corner and then consistently leave him in the apartment by himself while you hang out with Paige–making jokes about how you too should have been matched.

Sis is not doing enough.

Thankfully, Jacob is being honest and his feelings about Haley’s actions and is willing to call her on the empty gestures and lack of effort in the right places. He told her straight up that she wasn’t ready. And I think he’s right. Still, at the same time Haley was right in the sense that if he is still invested in the marriage, he should be very clear about what he needs from her. He can’t be sending hints about wanting her to come home. They’re not close enough for those messages to translate.

Erik and Virginia

Chile. We’ve had suspicions about Erik for some time now. And every week they seem to be confirmed all over again. Homeboy is controlling. He made such a big deal about Virginia traveling, hoping that she would manage to stay in contact with him while she was away. He even made some request about her texting him every two hours. He was expecting a text every two hours from her.  But when he was traveling for work, he couldn’t do the same and was very unapologetic about it when she asked.

Personally, I’m waiting for the day when Virginia confronts Erik openly and honestly about his need to control her. It ain’t cute. And while they might make it past these eight weeks, I doubt that the two would stay together long term if he continues to act this way.

Ryan and Clara

I been trying to tell y’all, I still don’t have a good sense of who Ryan is. When he does say anything at length, it seems to be some very wordy, podium type politician speech. Initially, I was worried about Clara getting on his nerves with all of his talking. Now, it seems the tables have turned. When he was trying to come at her like a motivational speaker when all she wanted was donuts, sis was not having it.

I don’t know what will happen with these two. But some things need to change pretty quickly if they’re going to be able to go the distance.

Vince and Briana

I thought it was going to be another great week for Briana and Vincent. She didn’t appear to be too bossy or disparaging in her comments. Vincent was teaching her some Spanish words. And then brutha bought her a whole bike–something that she mentioned she wanted on their wedding day. You’ve got to love a man that listens. And the fact that he ordered a basket for Cookie was just too sweet. Vincent had all the points. But baby…later that week he lost them.

Vincent has got to lay his pride to the side. It’s getting in the way of him enjoying his life and his wife. I know homeboy is Dominican and likely wanted to rep for his people on national television but he also needs to have some realistic expectations for himself. You can’t be good at everything. And don’t take life so seriously. He turned what could have been a very lovely evening into Briana scrambling to try and figure out what was wrong with him.

I like Vincent a lot. But this is something he’s got to work on. Not only is it annoying and exhausting, over time Briana might come to resent this response to trying anything new. Whew! Issa problem.

Pastor Dwight

Before we go any further, I just want to say that Pastor Dwight is the real MVP. So often we see men make excuses for the bad behavior of other men. But Pastor Dwight told Paige straight up that Chris was double minded. And since they respect the word of God so much around those parts, he told her, “A double minded man is unstable in all of his ways.” Yay God! I could have used that word when I was coming up.

Even he, a Pastor who Chris knew from his own life, tried to tell Paige to be out. He even dropped some tea to the fact that Paige was not the second woman he had been engaged to marry but the third. Baby boy is a relationship hopper.

I thought perhaps Paige would listen to this wise counsel but the word from the man of God was not enough to keep her away.

We already know that Chris doesn’t like to hear the truth about himself. So when he learned that Paige had met with Pastor Dwight, the man that married her, Chris said it was inappropriate because he was his guest. And he said he doesn’t plan on speaking to him again. Lol typical.

Paige

There are moments when Paige be tough talking. But she knows and sadly Chris knows that whenever he calls, she’s going to come running. She told the other wives that she was undecided about meeting up with him. She said she was going to do whatever the good lord presents to her. But we all knew that was code for “I’m going.” I don’t know what God is telling her. But I would be shocked if God, in Her infinite wisdom was advising Paige to continuously embarrass herself by remaining in Chris’ presence.

But that’s what she did.

At the meet up, Chris didn’t have anything new to say. He was grinning up in Paige’s face. At one point she got up and told him that she didn’t like her time to be wasted and that he was embarrassing her. But it wasn’t long before she came right back. Much to the chagrin of the audience.

Reset?!

At the end of the conversation, Chris and Paige agree to start over. I don’t have to tell you how this will end. Already, in the previews he’s saying ONCE AGAIN that he’s not fully committed to this process.

At this point, I don’t know what it’s going to take.
