Zoe Kravitz Pulls Plug On 18-Month Marriage To Karl Glusman — See Them During Happier Times

After 18 months of marriage, Zoe Kravitz and Karl Glusman’s marriage is coming to an end.
A rep for the 32-year-old actress confirmed that the couple was calling it quits after PEOPLE obtained court records showing that Kravitz filed for divorce. The paperwork was filed on December 23.
Kravitz and Glusman wed in June 2019 at the home of her rockstar father, Lenny Kravitz, in Paris. It was a star-studded affair, with guests including Denzel Washington, and the cast of her HBO hit series, Big Little Lies, among a list of the who’s who of Hollywood.
They first started dating in 2016 and the actress revealed that they were engaged in late 2018. The pair celebrated their wedding anniversary this past June. And while it’s unclear why Kravitz pulled the plug on the marriage, based on Glusman’s anniversary message to his wife on Instagram, they, like many couples during the pandemic, found their relationship tested.
“One year,” the 32-year-old wrote. “Not the year we expected… but I feel like if we can make it through this, we can take on anything. I love you. More than anything.”
“You’re my best friend… you crack me up and you melt my heart… you call me out on my bulls–t and you challenge me to grow… I love you for that,” he added. “And I’ll do anything and everything for you until the day I die. Now let’s go save the world @zoeisabellakravitz.”
That post is now deleted.
As for any current comments, neither party has spoken about the split. However, Kravitz did share an Instagram Story on January 2 with an image of a woman throwing something in the trash. The woman was marked “The Universe,” and the trash was labeled “People places and things that no longer serve my greatest and highest good.” The star captioned the image, “MOOD.”

Kravitz and Glusman were photographed holding hands in Paris ahead of their wedding day. They were headed to the rehearsal dinner the night before their nuptials.

Before Kravitz met and fell in love with Glusman, she had a few other high-profile relationships with fellow actors. She dated Ezra Miller, and then Penn Badgley, of You fame, from 2011 to 2013. She met her future husband in 2016 with the help of a friend.
“My friend knew that I wanted to meet someone – not even to get serious, I think just to get laid, to be completely honest with you – and he brought Karl,” she told British Vogue in 2019. “I instantly felt something – then he turned around and started talking to the blonde girl next to him and I was like, ‘Wait, what?’ But he later told me that he was just nervous.”

He proposed to her in 2018, initially planning to do a fancy proposal in Paris, but opting to ask for Kravitz’s hand in their apartment — in sweats. He changed his plans due to their conflicting work schedules. At the time, keeping it simple was better for her.
“I was in sweatpants,” she told Rolling Stone that year. “I think I was a little drunk. I could feel his heart beating so fast — I was like, ‘Baby, are you OK?’ I was actually worried about him! I love that it wasn’t this elaborate plan in Paris. It was at home, in sweatpants.”

One of their last public outings photographed was back in February at the premiere of Kravitz’s short-lived Hulu series, High Fidelity.
During the couple’s wedding, she revealed it wasn’t Glusman’s speech that brought her to tears, but her father Lenny’s.
“It was beautiful. He went up and gave one of the most beautiful speeches I’ve ever heard and I was in tears and it kind of made the night,” she said during a visit with The Tonight Show.

Back in January, Kravitz talked about married life with ELLE. She said at the time that they both felt solid in their relationship.
“I’m used to my family living in different cities, yet we stay close while all doing our own things,” she said. “Karl has his own career and needs to focus on that, but we’ve been together for a few years now, and we know where we are. If anything, the best part of being married is being able to have the odd fight and knowing neither of us is going to walk out the door. The commitment feels safe.”

At some point in the pandemic, Kravitz and Glusman were holed up together in London. During that time, she did an interview with Vanity Fair where she was asked what she learned during her time in quarantine:
“I am lucky. So lucky.
Let go.
Don’t try to control anything.
Be thankful for every moment and everyone in your life who you love.
Ice cream always helps,” she shared.

The couple was captured looking very much in love back in 2018 at the premiere of her film Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes Of Grindelwald. When speaking about proposing to Kravitz, Glusman joked that he went for comfy sweats because he was freaking out about popping the question.
“I was on the verge of having a panic attack so I needed to get into something much more loose and comfortable,” he told MR PORTER back in March.

Something the couple had in common during their time together, as he told MR PORTER, was a love of Friends, of all shows. Glusman joked that he was such a fan he wanted them to alter their home decor to pay homage to the sitcom.
“We love Friends. I tried to convince Zoë to get the furniture from the café or [Monica and Rachel’s] apartment; that picture frame around the peephole on the door. But she is strongly against any of that, like, ‘No, absolutely not!’”

As the couple was finding their footing, Kravitz said something she didn’t like was the pressure to move forward and start a family with Glusman so soon.
“A lot of people ask the question, ‘When are you gonna have a baby?’ or say things like, ‘When’s the baby?’ and I really get offended by people assuming that’s something that I have to do because society says so,” she said this past summer.

Kravitz spotted here all smiles with Glusman, said last year that she felt marriage had helped mature her and changed her for the better.
“I’m making less bad choices – I would like to think,” she told Variety. “You know, life is an ongoing struggle, so of course, there’s always work to be done. But there’s that first step where it’s like, I’m an adult.”
