COVID-19 has ruined its share of wedding plans but from the looks of it, the novel coronavirus may also be canceling engagements altogether. In a recent interview with Andy Cohen on his Sirius XM show, Radio Andy, the Hustlers actress shared that after having to cancel her Italian destination wedding in June as a result of COVID restrictions, she and her fiancé, Alex Rodriguez, are considering not tying the knot at all.
“Oh yeah, we’ve talked about that for sure. I mean at our age, we’ve both been married before, it’s like, do we get married? Do we not? What does it mean for us? And it’s just, it comes down to like personal, like, what do you want to do?” she explained.
Lopez went on to share that calling off the wedding was tough, but necessary considering the high infection rates in Italy at the time.
“There’s definitely no rush though. It was really sad because we were supposed to get married in June and we had planned it all. So in March or April, we’re looking down the pipe and we’re going, ‘This is maybe not going to happen,”‘ she explained. “Italy’s the worst place in the world. And we were going to get married in Italy. I was like, ‘Okay, we got to cancel everything.’ And we had to put out all this money and all this stuff, we were like, ‘We gotta cancel it.’ So we, we canceled it.”
Lopez admits that they later attempted to replan the wedding, but those plans fell apart as well.
“And then we try to regroup for later in the year, a few months ago. And I was like, ‘Nope, still not the right time.’ So it was just a little disappointing,” she confessed. “And then you just think to yourself, well, things will happen in their divine time in a way.”
The singer revealed that these canceled plans caused them to reflect on whether or not marriage is even the right move for them at all, referencing Goldie Hawn and Kurt Russell, who have been partnered since 1983 without being married.
“But the same thing with like the Goldie thing and Kurt, you think, do you have to? Should we? It just kind of gave us a moment to pause and think about it. And I think it’s something that maybe is still important to us, but there’s no rush, you know, there’s no rush it’ll happen when it happens,” she said.
Lopez and Rodriguez first announced their engagement in March of 2019 after two years of dating. The former MLB star has been married twice while the Selena actress has been married four times. Both Lopez and Rodriguez have two children from previous relationships.
Of course, J.Lo and A-Rod wouldn’t be the first celebs to call off an engagement. Continue reading for more celebrity couples who didn’t make it down the aisle.

Taraji P. Henson and Kelvin Hayden
After more than two years of dating, former NFL star Kelvin Hayden proposed to Taraji P. Henson in 2018. Unfortunately, the couple never tied the knot. Initially, their wedding plans were thwarted by COVID, but they later decided to call off the engagement altogether.
“I just turned 50 and you know, I haven’t said it yet, but it didn’t work out. And I tried. I said therapy. Let’s do the therapy thing. But if you’re both not on the same page with that, then you feel like you’re taking it on yourself. and that’s not fair position for anybody to play in a relationship,” she confessed in an October 2020 interview with The Breakfast Club. “My happiness is not his responsibility and neither is his mine. We have to first learn how to make ourselves happy. So when one person is taking on the weight of the entire relationship, it’s never going to work.”

Porsha Williams and Dennise McKinley
After announcing their engagement in October of 2018, Porsha Williams later called off their plans to marry upon learning that then-fiancé, Dennis McKinley, had cheated on her during her pregnancy. The pair did reconcile and got re-engaged during an episode of “Real Housewives of Atlanta.” Sadly, it appears that the relationship fell apart again during quarantine.
“It started different, I’m not going to lie. Quarantine started like honeymoon — like [we were] f—ing everywhere, and cooking everything, and, ‘Oh my God, he’s right here.’ Then, it turned to divorce within five months. I am divorced. It like sped my s–t up,” Porsha explained during a recent episode of RHOA to her sister, Lauren Williams, and co-star, Tanya Sam.
She later confirmed in a confessional that the relationship has ended.
“Dennis and I — we had this major argument and it kind of just sent me over the edge. I don’t necessarily like who I am in the relationship right now. This breakup is just something that I need to do for me,” she told producers.

Lamar Odom and Sabrina Parr
Nearly one year after first announcing their engagement in November of 2019, Sabrina Parr took to Instagram to share with followers that she and Lamar Odom were no longer an item.
“Y’all know I’m honest and transparent so I have to be the first to let you guys know that I am no longer engaged to Lamar,” she wrote. “This has been a difficult decision for me to make but it is the best for myself and my children. Lamar has some things that he alone has to work through. I love him dearly but I am no longer able to be by his side while he seeks the help he so desperately needs. I wish him all the best and I am asking that you pray for everyone involved.”
Less than one month after calling things off, Parr confirmed that she and Odom are back together; however, wedding plans remain unclear.

Michelle Williams and Pastor Chad Johnson
In 2018, Michelle Williams announced that her engagement to Pastor Chad Johnson had ended.
“I’d rather be alone and be whole and healed of past hurts and wounds instead of being in a relationship wishing I had taken the time to do so,” she wrote in an Instagram post that was later deleted.
Prior to that split, Williams had called off their plans to marry multiple times. In May of 2019, the pair was spotted out together at the Kentucky Derby; however, the current status of their relationship remains unclear.

Draya Michelle and Orlando Scandrick
Draya Michelle and Orlando Scandrick’s on-again-off-again relationship dates back to 2013. After multiple splits, the pair got engaged in 2015 only for Scandrick to call off the engagement less than a month later. After four more years of breaking up and making up, the couple officially ended their relationship in 2019 — something that Draya revealed on Christmas Day.
“I have been single for the entire month of December,” she wrote in an Instagram post. “So if anyone has anything to say about me or the guy I used to be engaged to, save it. We don’t care. Merry Christmas everyone.”

Adrienne Bailon and Lenny Santiago
Prior to her marriage to worship leader Israel Houghton, Adrienne Houghton (formerly Adrienne Bailon) was engaged to marry her longtime boyfriend, music executive Lenny Santiago. The daytime TV host called off her engagement after just seven months. She later explained that she should have never accepted the proposal in the first place.
“I wish I knew, back when I said yes to my first engagement, that the ring wasn’t going to make me feel like what I had gone through made me feel like I won,” Houghton confessed during an episode of “The Real.” “When you’ve been in a relationship for a long time—and I’ve spoken about it. I wasn’t paraded on social media. I didn’t get the love, attention or affection that I thought I deserved. Even though by that time, we both knew it was over. I felt like the ring made me feel like the years I put into it, at least I had something to show for it. I got asked and that was enough for me.”

Nick Cannon and Selita Ebanks
Prior to his marriage to Mariah Carey, Nick Cannon was once engaged to marry model Selita Ebanks. After meeting at a Super Bowl party, Cannon publically proposed to the former Victoria’s Secret Angel in Times Square. The two would later call off their engagement after just a few months.
“Selita and Nick are taking a break to focus on their careers but still very much love each other and remain the best of friends,” Ebanks’ publicist, Melissa Raubvogel, said in a 2007 statement, according to People.

Brandy Norwood and Ryan Press
Two years after announcing her 2012 engagement, a representative for singer Brandy Norwood confirmed that her courtship to music executive Ryan Press had ended. “They decided to take a step back and reevaluate the relationship,” the rep told Us Weekly in a 2014 statement. “Brandy is 35 now — that’s what her whole #35 on Twitter is about, becoming her own woman.” The spokesperson went on to share that the split was amicable.
“Brandy has a daughter and she still wants to be married and have more kids but she is working on so many other things right now,” the rep added. “They haven’t ended things on a bad note and they still speak all the time.”
Earlier this year, during an appearance on “Wendy,” the singer and songwriter revealed that she is happily single.
“I’m dating myself. I realized that I am the person for me. I am not on the market. I don’t want to be in a relationship with anyone but myself right now,” she said.
