It Looks Like Chris Rock Has Moved On From Megalyn Echikunwoke With This Actress

Is Chris Rock off the market again? There is speculation that that’s the case after the 55-year-old was spotted out in Malibu with actress Carmen Ejogo this past weekend.
The 46-year-old English actress is best known for her starring roles in Selma and Sparkle, but most recently starred in HBO’s True Detective, the film Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald and the Netflix biopic Self Made. According to PEOPLE, the two were seen going out for lunch in laid back looks. They first sparked rumors about the state of their relationship when they were spotted out for dinner together in New York City last month. They were seen holding hands and enjoying a lively conversation with one another based on the photos published of the outing by The Daily Mail.

Rock, who currently stars on the latest season of the FX series Fargo, was most recently in a relationship with actress Megalyn Echikunwoke for four years. That courtship ended earlier this year amid reports that Rock may not have been ready for anything serious following his marriage to Malaak Compton-Rock. The two were married for 18 years when they announced they were calling it quits. The divorce was finalized in 2016, and the exes share two daughters.
As for Ejogo, she has been married, too. She was most recently married to actor Jeffrey Wright from 2000 to 2014, and they share two children together. Before that, she was briefly married to rapper and actor Tricky in 1998. She also has something in common with Rock’s ex, Echikunwoke. Ejogo was also born to a white mother and Nigerian father.

The talented actress has played Coretta Scott King twice, in Selma and in the HBO film Boycott. She got to meet the late civil rights icon while working on Boycott.
“She loved it; she responded to my performance positively, so I got to meet her and spend time with her, which was really quite an overwhelming experience, actually,” she said.

Before she was a successful actress, Ejogo also delved in music as a singer and songwriter, doing a number of collaborations. She sang alongside her ex-husband Tricky, had her own video show in the UK, and for the Sparkle soundtrack, she actually sang lead on four different songs, including the standout “Something He Can Feel.”

Ejogo met ex-husband Jeffrey Wright while they were working on Boycott, which he played Martin Luther King, Jr. in. Though they went their separate ways in 2014, they co-parent very well and still have a solid friendship. Wright, and their daughter Juno are photographed above supporting Ejogo at the red carpet premiere of her film, Roman J. Israel, Esq.

Ejogo said she took a break from acting for a while in order to devote her time to raising her two children. That was a decision she wanted to make, though she did worry that trying to get back into the business would be hard.
“You wonder if you’re ever going to have permission to come back into the business. And to find that I have been given that option, at this point in my life, I’m so grateful,” she told The Evening Standard.

Ejogo got her start in the business doing some modeling as a child. She also got to work with the late David Bowie in the movie Absolute Beginners (which also featured Sade) when she was only 14. One of Ejogo’s greatest memories in terms of work, was getting to witness the talent of the late Whitney Houston up close when she starred in Sparkle as Sister.
“I had a great, great, great experience working with her on Sparkle,” she said. “It’s a movie that is very close to my heart. It’s what Dream Girls was based on. That’s a really special film for me. She [Whitney] sings in that film and I remember watching her. It had been a while since she had to do that in front of an audience. It was super emotional on that day and it was a very special day that I’ll never forget.”

A few years ago, Ejogo shared that despite her success, money hasn’t been the driving force in her career choices.
“I don’t need a lot of money to live. I can be a pure creative person. That’s not for everyone but it’s what works for me,” she told The Grio. “As a result I can sleep at night feeling good about the fact that I’m really living out my dreams.”
