Not every relationship ends because of an egregious betrayal of trust such as infidelity. Sometimes, relationships come to an end because one or both parties come to the realization that they deserve better than what is being offered by their current romance.

While most of us have a general idea of what we should not tolerate in a relationship, when you’ve been in a situation long-term, sometimes the lines get blurred. So if you needed a reminder, here it is: 10 signs that you deserve better than your current relationship.

Your relationship lacks basic kindness

Basic kindness is given freely to strangers. A sure sign that you are in the wrong relationship is when your partner is incapable of offering common courtesy. You deserve better than a partner who is cruel, nasty, or mean.

It’s obvious that you’re not a priority

When you were never or are no longer a priority in someone’es life, it’s obvious. That alone is a significant enough reason to leave the relationship. There are times when people become overwhelmed with work and other responsibilities and temporarily lose sight of what is important, but that looks a lot different from being completely pushed to the backburner.

You have a nagging feeling that you’re settling

We all have moments in which we second guess our choices, but if you’re constantly questioning one particular choice — such as who you chose to be your romantic partner — it may be worth it to take a closer examination at why you’re feeling that way. While no relationship is perfect, you deserve a relationship that makes you happy and one that is fulfilling.

You’re the only person making an effort

Maintaining a healthy relationship takes work after a few years, but the work is not nearly as burdensome when both parties are putting forth the effort that it takes to sustain the romance. You deserve a partner who invests in the relationship.

Your partner allows others to disrespect you

Any time that a person allows their relatives or friends to disrespect their partner without speaking up, it should be noted. Obviously, keeping the peace or staying in the good graces of certain people is more important than protecting you, which means it’s time to leave.

There’s an imbalanced power dynamic

If your partner has caused you to feel as though you don’t have a voice or a say regarding what goes on in your life or in your home, you deserve better. Healthy relationships have even power dynamics. No one party should hold all of the power or make all of the decisions.
