If you’ve ever wondered how people who once shared such a close knit bond can drift apart, you need look no further than this season of “Insecure.” When the season opened with Issa explaining that she didn’t f*ck with Molly anymore, we were all shocked. But after last night’s episode, it’s clear that a lack of communication, passive aggressive behavior, conflict avoidance and downright pettiness are all contributing factors to the deterioration of their friendship. And while these elements have always been present in their relationship in one way or another, this season, with Issa coming into herself and Molly more willing to put in work with a man, these two don’t know what to do with themselves. Last night was a doozy. Let’s dive in.

Where is Condola?
There’s more to Condola than I originally thought. She’s a great business woman and has been supportive of Issa in this Block Party endeavor. But there are more than a few things about her that are…interesting. It seems that she’s dropped off the face of the earth after Lawrence did too much over Thanksgiving. And with Schoolboy Q dropping out as the headliner, now is when Issa could really use her help. But perhaps this is all intentional. Maybe Issa needs to prove to herself and every one else that she can do this on her own.

Where did Nathan come from?
Nathan is too weird for me. As much as I enjoyed watching him and Issa try to develop their budding relationship, I can’t stand his inconsistency. We just don’t know enough about him. And him calling Issa’s phone so randomly is unsettling. But that little voicemail let me know that we’ll probably be seeing him before everything is said and done with.

Is Daniel coming back?
Something tells me that the Block Party is going to be the place where all of Issa’s exes converge into one place. Lawrence, Nathan, Daniel, and even TSA Bae. It’ll make for a great episode. But the thing is, it makes the most sense for Daniel to come back. When Issa was scrounging her phone looking for someone who could headline, I wondered why she just didn’t reach out to Daniel. Sure, things between them didn’t end on the best note. But I’m sure he would be willing to help and he certainly knows people.

What did Lawrence have to say?
I think it’s safe to say that Lawrence and Issa aren’t the best communicators. Not when they were together and apparently not when they’re apart either. Lawrence was going to say something about Condola but Issa revealing that she hadn’t heard from her stopped him. Homeboy certainly knows more than he’s saying. And I hope that Lawrence is not the reason Condola has stopped responding to Issa.

Tiffany and Kelli are not here for Molly and Issa’s drama
Best practice dictates that you not complain to other people in a friend group about another friend in the group. But if someone does happen to do this, Tiffany and Kelli modeled the perfect behavior. Listen but don’t engage. Now, there’s a good chance that Kelli and Tiffany were so preoccupied with the baby that they didn’t even hear the pettiness, but I like to think that maturity prevented them for participating in that foolishness.

Why is Molly willing to communicate and fight for Andrew but not Issa?
Molly is doing a new thing and expressing her feelings, making compromises and making adjustments for Andrew, who’s only been in her life on a consistent basis, for a hot second. But when it comes to Issa, who has been down for years, she can’t manage to do the same. You hate to see it. But more than a few of us know women who prioritize their romantic relationships with men over their platonic relationships with their friends.

Andrew is finna embarrass Molly…
What’s particularly terrible about Molly and Andrew is the fact that Andrew just doesn’t care about her the way he should. While she believes that he’s supportive because he doesn’t complain when she has to work late, he doesn’t share any information about himself. And when Molly wanted to talk about her work, this fool flat out yawned. They’re too young in this relationship for him to be acting like he doesn’t care about what’s also important to her. Not to mention, during their chat on the couch, it all but seemed that Andrew was not too pressed about the notion that they might have to walk away from one another. For as petty and uncalled for as it was, I was too tickled by Issa likening Molly to Jada Pinkett-Smith at the Red Table when she started sharing relationship stories as if she had all the answers.

Molly’s not the only one who’s been acting up.
In all honesty, neither one of them are being great friends to one another. Issa has consistently dodged any and all attempts to have a real and honest conversation about the state of their relationship. There have been more than a few occasions when Molly has made provisions for her and Issa has flaked. And since there is a dark cloud over their friendship right now, this is not the best time to be asking for favors. Issa is laser-focused right now but she didn’t even notice that Molly was r

Was Molly wrong for saying no?
If you ask me, I’d say yes. I understand Molly is in her feelings right now. She and Issa have not been on great terms. Still, she should also recognize that this is the first time Issa has cared so deeply about something and so consistently. She could have expressed her concerns about bridging these parts of her life and still just asked Andrew the question. Instead, she made it seem like Issa’s headliner dropping out was her fault. Then she played her all together. No bueno.
