Medical personnel across America are working tirelessly to care for patients and return them to their families happy and whole. As they continue to risk their lives for us as the coronavirus spreads, there are small ways that we can take care of them. Here are 10 ways to say “thank you” to the healthcare workers in your life and community.

Stay home

As the nation’s healthcare workers work long hours to treat COVID-19 patients, one of the biggest ways that we can do our part is to stay home and practice social distancing in an effort to minimize the spread of coronavirus. By staying in, we can help to reduce the number of positive cases, thus slowing the spread of this illness and minimizing the chances of hospitals becoming overrun with patients.

Sew masks

There is a major shortage of supplies that medical professionals need to protect themselves while treating patients. Clothing companies such as Gap, independent designers, and people with sewing skills are doing their part by sewing masks and donating them to hospitals. Of course, if sewing is not your thing, sending masks via Amazon or other retailers who carry them will do.

Some of our nation’s healthcare workers are working shifts that last 12 hours and longer, which can sometimes leave little time for grocery shopping when you factor in other responsibilities. A simple but effective way to help is to send a shipment of groceries.

Let her vent without interrupting

Medical professionals are going through a lot right now. They’re risking their health and the health of their families to care for the infirmed. In many cases, they are working without adequate protection and supplies. It’s not uncommon for them to carry the heaviness of the workplace home with them and sometimes, they may just want to vent. Offer a listening ear and do so without interrupting.
