Megan Thee Stallion is hip-hop’s new hottie and all eyes are on her. Her twerk, seducing glare and braggadocious rhymes have the world mesmerized. So of course when I walked into CRWN with Megan Thee Stallion, an intimate interview series with Elliott Wilson, New York City’s Gotham Hall was packed to capacity. After hosting the Suga celebration with TIDAL, the “Ain’t Sh!t Sweet” Hottie Party, the “Big Ole Freak” rapper’s southern charm shined through during her up close and personal convo with Wilson as she talked about her new EP Suga, how she almost missed Beyonce’s New Year’s Eve party thanks to her stylist EJ and her hot girl semester at Texas Southern University. Take a look at a few things we learned about the Houston femcee.

The Beat for “Captain Hook” Was Inspired By Her Love For Anime
One day while watching an anime, Meg contacted her in-house producer Lil’ Ju Made the Beat and made a peculiar request.
“I need you to make me a beat with some swords in it,” she told him.
While he was initially confused, he managed to craft the bass-heavy beat that serves as the instrumental for the bold and brazen “Captain Hook,” which was originally just a freestyle.

Megan Thee Stallion Likes To Record Alone
When it’s time for Thee Stallion to lay down her verses, being alone is her preference.
“I like to focus,” she said about her recording sessions. “I don’t like a lot of distraction. If I’m distracted I really can’t write. I’ve been in a few sessions where it’ll be turned up but that’s for the party.”
The 25-year-old femcee doesn’t mind having a little fun in the studio, but once it’s time for her to push her pen she wants everyone off the premises.
“When it’s time for me to start recording I need everybody to get out.”

“Hit My Phone” Was Originally Kehlani’s Song
When left coast singer Kehlani let Megan hear her unreleased track “Hit My Phone” to ask for her opinion, she liked it so much that she hounded her almost everyday about releasing it. Unbeknowst to Kehlani, Meg has wished the song was hers. So she was delighted when Kehlani told her the song didn’t make the cut for her album.
“Randomly one day she hit my phone and was like ‘Megan the song doesnt actually fit on my album do you want it?'”
She jumped at the chance to make the song hers and made sure it was included on the Suga tracklist.

We Won’t Know About Her Next Relationship
Even though she has been romantically linked to Trey Songz and stunned us all with a video of her tongueing down G-Eazy, Megan has only been in one public relationship. Last year, she was dating rapper Moneybagg Yo, whom she had known before the fame. She wanted to keep their relationship private but things didn’t go her way.
“I knew him before our relationship was public. Like, we were just friends from a long time ago. I wanted to keep it private but s–t just be happening and it don’t stay private!”
Soon after they went public, the relationship fizzled out. Right now, she says she is “currently single” and when she is boo’d up again, we won’t know about it.
“The next relationship I get in I’m definitely gonna keep it private.”

Megan Thee Stallion Wants to Be Megan Thee Songwriter
On the last two songs of Suga, “Crying in the Car” and “What I Need,” Meg surprised fans when she was harmonizing instead of spitting bars. Turns out, she has a R&B side that she had been keeping under wraps.
“I’m not hip-hop all the time. I like a lot of different types of music. I like all genres. But I do listen to a lot of R&B. At first I couldn’t sing at all. So I would go in the studio and y’all wouldn’t hear me singing songs because I couldn’t sing. The more and more I would practice the better I would get and I have a lot of melodies in my head. So I’m like let me start putting this out because this is a side of me I would like people to know.
She also hopes to become Megan Thee Songwriter one day.
“I even want to start actually writing for singers.”

Her Grandmother And Great-Grandmother Inspired Her To Open Assisted-Living Homes
Meg’s major at Texas Southern University is health administration and she hopes to open assisted-living homes in her hometown of Houston, TX. She was inspired to do this by her 67-year-old grandmother who was taking care of her 87-year-old grandmother until she sadly passed away. After meeting an assisted-living facility owner, she became inspired.
“I know that was hard on her,” she said about her grandmother. “Two older women living in a house taking care of each other and I knew it was tough. This lady came to my school one day and she was lecturing us about what she did and she owned an assisted living facility. There were five elderly people in a house and then there were nurses who would come in and out to take care of them.”
Since the job market isn’t too friendly to college grads, she wants to make sure TSU grads are able to secure employment after getting their degree. So she plans on hiring her classmates to work in these facilities.
“I really want to have my classmates run it because it’s really hard for you to get a job fresh out of college. A lot of times people don’t hire you because you don’t have the experience Then I’m like well damn if you never get the chance to get the experience how are you ever going to get the job.”

She Was Tight-lipped About the Rumored Fever Movie
When Wilson asked her about the rumored Fever that was supposed to serve as a visual to the Fever EP, Meg didn’t have much to say. No release date. No plot. Nothing. So it looks like that will remain a figment of our imagination.
