When connecting with a friend or acquaintance on social media, you learn a lot about them. Some of what you learn are things that they intend to share. Other times, you’re exposed to shortcomings and insecurities they unknowingly communicate through the things that they post and the way in which they choose to use social media. We all have moments of insecurity, unfortunately, instead of dealing with those issues, some use social networking platforms as a crutch to make themselves feel better. Continue reading for ten things insecure people do on social media.
Overshare
One sure way to recognize an insecure person on social media is that they overshare. They go to painstaking measures to share details that no one would have ever asked for. More often than not, it’s because they feel that they have something to prove.

Fabricate
The most insecure social media users often resort to lying and misrepresenting themselves on social networking platforms. Sometimes, they go out of their way to tell lies. Other times, they just go to extreme measures to make their lives appear a certain way. Usually, these people aren’t leading terrible lives IRL, but their ridiculous need to impress others causes them to overcompensate.

Selfie overload
We all love a good selfie, but insecure folks need constant affirmation from others. As a result, they become obsessive with the number of selfies they post to their pages.

Overpublicize their relationships
There’s nothing wrong with showing your boo a little love, but people who flaunt their love on a regular basis are often doing because things aren’t measuring up behind the scenes. Couples who are settled in stable relationships don’t really see the need to overpublicize their love to the masses.

Go off about people not supporting them
Some people need constant validation and when they don’t receive it, they feel abandoned and lash out. These people are usually easy to spot on social media because they post frequently about people who don’t support them, fake friends, and their so-called haters. They are also good for reposting memes about people who don’t like their posts.

Highlight material possessions
There are some people who go out of their way to make material possessions the foci of their social media posts. You know the types who like to post pictures of their designer bags and wads of money. Generally speaking, people who do this want to make others envious of them and what they have. Additionally, like most insecure people, they have something to prove.

Be the fun police
Some people want to prove that they’re smarter, better, or above everyone else and they do so by acting as the guardians of all things that are fun and enjoyable. You can usually find them boasting about how they’ve never watched a single episode of a popular TV show or shaming people for getting in on the latest social media challenge. Unfortunately, they just haven’t figured out that it’s okay to let people enjoy things.

Subliminal messages
Insecure people have a gaggle of imaginary haters whom they address indirectly on a regular basis. Additionally, people with crippling insecurities are easily offended and are often engaged in one-sided feuds with people who are completely oblivious. When you’re insecure, it’s much easier to be passive-aggressive in front of an audience than to confront the issue.

Make posts about purging their friend lists
Thankfully, no social media platforms have a function that publicizes when one user unfriends another so there are some who must go out of their way to share the news anyway. Usually, their posts will read: “I had to purge my page of the fakes and the phonies. If you can still see this message, you a real one.” It’s all about looking and feeling important.

Like their own posts
To some, social media is a numbers game. So they put the odds in their favor by liking their own posts. At the end of the day, it’s all about keeping up appearances.
