Both of parents passed away at relatively young ages after battling illnesses—then she was diagnosed with breast cancer in her early 30s. But Yakima’s story isn’t about tragedy. She had great family members who stepped up to raise her as a teen. Yakima also built of a village of loving and supportive friends to love her as she faced health challenges. And, perhaps most significant, Yakima found a career path that literally helped her heal her body and spirit.
