Another familiar face from the original cast of Coming to America has returned for the sequel. Garcelle Beauvais, who had a small role in the original as one of the priestess dropping rose petals, has been added to the cast, according to the Hollywood Reporter. Beauvais, along with South African actress Nomzano Mbatha, are most likely the last additions since the film will begin shooting next week.
New additions to the star studded cast include Wesley Snipes, Tracey Morgan, Teyana Taylor, KiKi Layne, Rotimi, Leslie Jones, Rick Ross and Michael Blackson. The original stars from the 1988 comedy have signed on too, including Eddie Murphy, Arsenio Hall, Shari Headley, James Earl Jones and John Amos.
The sequel will follow Prince Akeem, played by Murphy, as he ventures back to Queens, New York to meet a son he never knew about. With Semmi, played by Hall, by his side he meets his son Lavelle and hopes to bring him back to his country so he can fulfill his role as the Prince of Zamunda. This is crucial for Prince Akeem as he is granting his father’s dying wish to groom his own son to become prince as he takes the throne as the king.
Coming to America 2 will be in theaters December 18th, 2020.
