When it comes to our skin, we often head to the nearest Sephora or drug store or even a dermatologist to fight off acne or maintain our complexion. While that’s fine, there’s a plant that you can use in the comfort of your home that can take care of your beauty needs. The aloe vera plant can help you revamp your skincare routine and even help you save a few bucks.

“The pulp of the aloe plant is water-rich, soothing, and hydrating to the skin,” Joshua Zeichner, director of cosmetic and clinical research in dermatology at Mount Sinai Hospital in New York, told Allure.

Makeup Primer/Remover

Replacing your usual makeup primer with aloe vera gel not only benefits your skin but can also enhance your look. Before you beat your face, dab some aloe vera on your face to help minimize your pores and help your foundation be long lasting. When it’s time remove your makeup, mix aloe vera gel with olive oil and it works just as good as any store bought products.

Helps Treat Acne

Aloe vera gel can also help you fight off acne and inflammation. If you apply the alow directly to your face or even drink aloe vera water or juice, you will see a decrease in breakouts. It can also help to soothe irritates skin and those painful blemishes we get during that time of the month.

DIY Face Mask

If you like to make your own products,  aloe vera could be a great ingredient for a DIY face mask. You can mix it with things like egg whites, honey and cucumber and apply it overnight or before you go to bed. It not only helps address acne but also moisturizes and forms your skin thanks to anti-aging properties.

Homemade Exfoliating Scrub

Aloe vera gel can also help get rid of dead skin because it has salicylic acid, which helps unclog pores. Mix it with some pink Himalayan salt or brown sugar and create a homemade scrub that can used in your face, elbow and anywhere that needs a little extra attention.
