The First Granny rarely gives interviews, and doesn’t need all the glitz and glamour that comes with being the mother of two amazing Ivy League children (one of whom happens to be the nation’s First Lady). According to her son, Craig Robinson, she’d much rather be at home spending time with her family…It’s no surprise that this strong and quiet Grand-Madame of the White House intrigues us. She’s dropped some very wise words in public, and we’re amused to share them with you!
“If I can’t do it fast, I’m not doing it,” she says. “You don’t run just to be running—you run to win.”

“You try to get your kids not to think in the same way you did when you were coming along because you pass down – I call them ‘your issues’ – you pass down your issues and a lot of times, they don’t apply to their time and their life. They will have their own issues; they don’t need mine in their head.”

“I really am [enjoying my new life]…You want to know why? Because my children are good parents. It makes it very easy to be a grandmother when your children are good parents.”
Marian Robinson on how it feels to be in the White House.
In high school, Michelle [Obama] once had a typing teacher who started the class by handing out a chart showing students what grades they could expect based on how many words per minute they typed. According to the formula, Michelle earned an A, but when the time came for grades, the teacher said she didn’t give As. Michelle was outraged: How dare she set forth the rules and then not abide by them? “She badgered and badgered that teacher,” Marian Robinson said. “I finally called [the teacher] and told her, ‘Michelle is not going to let this go.'”
“I have candy, they stay up late – come to my house, they watch TV as long as they want to, we’ll play games until the wee hours,” Robinson said. “I do everything that grandmothers do that they’re not supposed to.”

” The White House reminds me of a museum, and it’s like, how do you sleep in a museum?” she asked People magazine.
One whirlwind year later — after world travel, a state dinner, retreats at Camp David and holiday extravaganzas — it appears the first lady’s mother is sleeping quite well.
