On Thursday Tamia and Grant Hill celebrated 20 years of marriage, a beautiful reminder of their love for one another and their family. The 20-year wedding anniversary represents the “china” year which is the traditional item you can gift a couple once they reach the mark.

The Hill’s embody the tenants of marriage throughout their relationship which has sustained for better or worse, sickness and health.

The couple met in the mid-90’s—as the myth goes, they were introduced by songstress Anita Baker in 1996. At the time, Tamia was a rising powerhouse R&B vocalist from Canada, while Grant was enjoying NBA stardom as small forward on the Detroit Pistons.

Two daughters and 20 years later, they still seem to see each other just like it was day one. Last year Tamia shared footage of her wedding day which became the video for her song, Today I do.

Grant began the day by celebrating with a series of photos from the early years of their relationship until now.

“Happy 20th Wedding Anniversary @realtamiaworld (cue the words of disbelief),” he began. “Seriously, I’m truly amazed and inspired by how far we’ve come; humbled by how far we have left to go; and beyond grateful to be on this journey with you…Thankful is an understatement!!

Tamia posted a short but sweet tribute to her husband on social media to mark their 20th wedding anniversary.

“Happy anniversary my love. Cheers to the next 20.” she wrote.

Four years into their marriage, Tamia discovered she was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis. “When I was diagnosed, the first thing he said was, ‘What do we need to do to fight this?’” she told Oprah. “It’s good to have a fighter on your side.” Tamia also served as support to Hill as he suffered multiple injures during his NBA career. He retired in June 2013 after 19 years in the NBA.

Tamia and Grant are devoted parents to their daughters Myla Grace Hill, 17 and Lael Rose Hill, 11. “I have lived the life of a child of a professional athlete and I understand the sacrifices that are made,” Hill told Raising Arizona Kids in 2008. “When I am home I try to spend as much time as I can with them. I know that 10, 15, 20 years from now, when they are out of the house, I’ll think back and remember those times. I spend time with the girls because you can’t get that back.
