It’s tough to slay in South Beach with the heat and humidity that Miami summers bring. The sun can zap the moisture out of skin, frizz up hair, and even have you sweating off your makeup.

As I hung out at the Miami Swim Week shows at W South Beach and beyond, I found that the key to beauty in Miami is making sure you have a few things in your arsenal to keep your hair looking lush and your skin popping. One thing you can do for starters is skip pressed, straightened styles if you’re heading to Miami for a weekend getaway. There’s a big chance that if you have natural hair and wear it straight, it won’t last long in the humidity.

Instead opt for naturally curly styles, pack products that fight against humidity, grab a body butter, and don’t forget your sunscreen.

Take a peek at the products you need to beat the heat in Miami!

Black Girl Sunscreen, $18.99

You can’t leave home without sunscreen, but especially when you’re in Miami. It’s easy to get sunburned and to damage your skin if you’re walking around the city or laying out by the pool or beach without any on. Sunscreens can often leave a chalky white residue on black skin, so opt for Black Girl Sunscreen ($18.99, BlackGirlSunscreen.com) instead. It’s an SPF 30 sunscreen that has a cult following because it doesn’t leave a chalky white residue. It absorbs quickly, is super moisturizing, and dries clear thanks to its natural formula and ingredients like shea butter, sunflower seed oil, carrot oil and jojoba.

Base Butter’s Body Love Cream, $19.00

I don’t usually have dry skin, but my skin gets so dry any time I’m in Miami, especially when I’m taking dips in the ocean or the pool. To help with this, make sure to have an ultra-moisturizing body butter on hand, like HanaHanaBeauty’s Lemongrass Shea Body Butter ($20.00, hanahanabeauty.com) or Base Butter’s Body Love Cream: Mango + Shea whipped body butter ($19.00, basebutter.com)

Supergoop! Defense Refresh Setting Mist, $28.00

This is a product that Halima Aden swears by and I do too. You can spray Supergoop! Defense Refresh Setting Mist ($28.00, supergoop.com) on your face over your makeup if you’re heading out, or without makeup before you hit the pool or beach. It dries clear, is lightweight, easy to apply, and gives you full coverage from the sun.

Everyone’s hair is different but you need a styling product specifically for frizz when you’re hanging out in Miami. Try SheaMoisture’s Mongongo & Hemp Seed Oils High Porosity Moisture-Seal Finishing Elixir ($12.99, sheamoisture.com). It’s specifically designed to tame frizzy curls on high porosity hair, which is moisture resistant, brittle, and easily breakable. The elixir is also infused with Mongongo and Hempseed Oils for ultra-hydration and shine.

Camille Rose Lavender Whipped Cream Leave-in, $14.00

I was looking for a ultra-moisturizing leave in that I could use on my wash and go styles in Miami and I stumbled upon Camille Rose Lavender Whipped Cream Leave-in ($14.00, camillerose.com). As soon as I put it on, it revived my hair and brought back the moisture. It’s a thick intense leave-in infused with olive fruit, lavender oil and rosemary extract. It’s designed to soften, detangle and moisturize, and has extra slip. It did all three for me.
