Tyler Perry Rejects Actress Billboard Job Ask—He’s Not Impressed

Trying to break into or get ahead in an industry as a young person can be extremely difficult — especially when it’s an industry as highly competitive as show business. There’s often pressure to do things that will help you to set you apart from other hopefuls, but if you’re not careful, your attempts to stand out in a crowd can backfire. Recently, actress Racquel Bailey paid for a billboard to get the attention of Tyler Perry in hopes of landing a role in his next film. Let that sink in, a Tyler Perry billboard job request!

“Attention Mr. Perry: Racquel Bailey is your next leading lady,” the billboard, which is located in Atlanta, reads.

According to the actress, who has appeared on HBO’s “The Night Of,” purchasing the ad space was a leap of faith. But, it turns out, the Tyler Perry billboard job request was denied.

“I had to make a trip down to Atlanta to see this #LeapOfFaith in person,” the mother of two wrote on Instagram. “It’s one thing to see renderings of it on my computer or seeing other people posting it. But #WOW I can’t believe I really did this. THIS THING IS HUUUUUGEEE!!!😂😂😂😂😂 #RacquelBailey #FaithJumper.”

Well, the advertisement worked. Sort of. It definitely got Perry’s attention; however, it likely won’t result in a movie role from the Family That Preys director. Well, at least not right now. Perry reposted the image of Bailey’s billboard and in the caption, explained that this is not the way to land a role.

“Auhhh…. soooooo…… here’s the deal. This is not the way to get my attention if you’re looking for a role in one of my shows. Please DON’T DO THIS, SAVE YOUR MONEY!! This is the third time that someone has done this. PLEASE STOP! To audition is FREE!! I’m sure you can use that money for a better purpose. I love that you want to work with me, and I love that you invest in yourself. But when you do things like this it puts my team on high alert and makes me look at you sideways. I know the message that you want to send is a positive one, but this comes across as the opposite,” he wrote.

Perry went on to offer encouragement and invite Bailey to audition the next time he holds a casting call. As it turns out, he has already seen the actress in action.

“JUST COME AND AUDITION. And by the way, you were great in THE NIGHT OF! It was my favorite show a couple years ago. I ALREADY SAW YOU!! So just audition and keep your money!! Again, I appreciate your effort, but that’s not the way to work for me. God bless you dreamer. I have no doubt you will make it one day!”
