Red Table Talk With Ciara

Every Red Table Talk has a message that makes us think, and even clap or give a “Yassss!” in front of our screens, but the latest episode featuring Ciara, Ciara: Healing Emotional Scars, is necessary for anyone who is in search of love – and even those who already have it.

“One of the reasons I wanted [Ciara] to come on to the table was the idea that she’s transformed some of her maybe not so pleasant experiences into the idea of a beauty mark,” host Jada Pinkett Smith said. “I remember you used to call them beauty marks,” Willow Smith added. “Every woman has her beauty marks. You need the adversity to come into your wisdom, and it’s up to us to transform it,” Jada continued. Come on chills!

Beauty Marks is the name of Ciara’s latest album, a project in which she discusses how she has turned those “emotional scars” into just that.

Rocking faux locs, a khaki army-inspired button down and jeans, Ciara was beaming as she sat down at the table with a smile with Jada and her co-hosts, Willow Smith, and Adrienne Banfield Norris, and dished on her life with husband Russell Wilson, her children, Future Jr. and Sienna, and the lessons she learned by healing her emotional scars.

How Ciara Knew Russell Wilson Was The One

For Ciara, her vibe with Russell felt different from the beginning. “When Russ came into my life, Future was 10 months old,” Ciara said. “It was different. I never had that feeling in my life. It was calm.”

Jada soon chimed in, saying, “See, before, the calm might not have been what you were looking for. “When that feeling comes out we are going to turn away and look for that other feeling.” Ciara said “that’s it,” as she laughed, before adding, “The thing is that feeling doesn’t happen though, because you’re clear,” Ciara continued.

Russell and Ciara started off as friends, Ciara went on to say, adding that Russell first met her family as only that. Soon though, things changed.

“When we talked we connected in every way, his conversation was different, the way he looked at life was different, the energy with my son just felt right, and the consistency. He was consistent,” she continued. “That consistency is so crucial. He was like open arms, I got you. Whenever he would think of me, he would always think about my son. To love me is to love my son. We come together. It’s dope. It’s a different level of love.”

Ciara’s Prayer for Russell

A fan wrote in and asked what we all want to know. “What specific prayer did you pray to get Russell? Help a sistah out.”

Her response? “I believe that when you pray for things in your life be very specific, be very clear about what you want to the point you can taste it,” Ciara said. “You’re getting lost into speaking into clarity what you want into your life. I prayed for discernment, a God-fearing man, someone who is going to love kids.”

“I believe you can’t get to what you want in life without a compass,” she continued. “Writing down is real.”

Ciara and Russell Want More Kids

When Ciara was asked if there are more kids in their future, she said with a laugh, “If you ask Russell, we have five more kids to make.” She continued, “I do look forward to having another baby. I hope I can have at least two more. I love my family.”

“I feel like I’m doing something even more because of them,” she continued. “When I look at those babies I just thank you God. I love being a mom.”

She Created a Different Vision for Herself Post-Breakup With Future

After Ciara and Future parted ways, she took some time to reflect and think about the things she wanted and did not want.

“As we come and go deeper into our womanhood we realize nothing is wasted. No regrets, learn from all of your experiences. When did you realize that idea?,” Jada asked.

“When I became a single mother,” Ciara replied, tearing up as she talked about the times she cried in the shower – and just about anywhere else, asking God why she was in the situation was in, living life as a single mom. After her breakup with Future, she said, “I desired different.” Ciara added that she learned to love herself and started to realize the things she didn’t want in a relationship. It helped her define the characteristics that were essential for her in love.

“My dad’s love is what saved me, because I was like my dad wouldn’t do this to my mom,” she said.

How She’s Adjusting to Having a Blanket Family

If you’re looking for some Future bashing here, look elsewhere. Ciara kept the focus on Russell as a dad, and skipped any talk of her ex-fiance’s involvement in it.

“It does take time,” she said with a smile, when Jada asked her how she deals with having a blanket family. “I don’t think people think about the kids when the chatter starts. We’ll be fine…but the kids can read stuff.” Celebrity aside, Ciara said the biggest part of navigating that space in real life is “trying our best to live life as much as we can and as normal as possible.”

Living that type of life and seeing how Russell loves their kids is one of the sexiest things about him to her, she said. He was “so excited about Future’s first steps”, Ciara continued, adding that Russell is at every parent teacher conference with her because “those details matter to him.” She added, “There’s something beautiful about your kids seeing how you’re loved.”

Ciara’s Past Experiences Made Her Beyond Grateful for Her Family Now

“It seems like with everything you’ve gone through you can really be grateful,” Jada said.

“Oh it’s real, Ciara said. “If I wouldn’t have gone through those things, I may not appreciate the man I have in my life. I may not appreciate when it is really going good and everything is falling into place. You need those roller coaster rides. I believe in my journey happening in front of the world for a reason.”

She Learned to Love Fearlessly

“As someone who’s kind of tough, I feel like I’ve been conditioned to always in protect mode just in case someone wants to drop me off and leave me hanging, but I think you have to love fearlessly,” Ciara said. “When you’re in the right situation you have to.”
