FRIES: The Acronym You Need To Know To Give And Get Consent When It Comes To Sex
In the wake of the #MeToo and #TimesUp movements, consent has become a bit of a buzzword, with many people using it and few knowing what it really is or how to obtain it. With April being Sexual Assault Awareness Month, we asked licensed therapist Shadeen Francis to breakdown consent for us to eliminate the gray area that sometimes exists when men and women are attempting to determine whether they have permission to engage in a sexual act with someone and victims are questioning whether they unwillingly gave someone access to violate them.
In walking us through what consent is and isn’t, Francis relied on the Planned Parenthood acronym “FRIES” which is the simplest breakdown of the term and all that goes along with it that we’ve seen. Check out the video above for the details of what FRIES stands for and how you can and should incorporate each aspect of the acronym into your sexual life.
