U.S. Closes Probe of Hyattsville Police
(Washington Post) — The Justice Department has closed its investigation into allegations of discrimination at Hyattsville’s police department, determining that there were no widespread practices that violated employees’ civil rights, city and NAACP officials said Tuesday. The investigation began this year after the Montgomery County and Prince George’s County chapters of the NAACP asked federal authorities to review allegations that the department discriminated against African American officers. Police and city officials denied the allegations, even asking some of the accusers to waive their privacy rights so authorities could speak more freely about their cases.
