A Guide for Everyday Tipping
(New York Times) — Hotel staff: I interviewed John Scott, chief executive officer of Rosewood Hotels & Resorts, last year for The Wall Street Journal about his strategies for tipping at hotels. Mr. Scott tips hotel housekeepers, doormen, porters, wait staff and concierges, and bases the tip amount on the level of service (think $2 a day for a housekeeper who does a standard cleaning and $5 a day for one who also arranges toiletries). You can skip, however,tipping the owners of bed and breakfasts.
