Go, ladies!

Today is International Women’s Day, and there are a number of ways you can celebrate it. You can listen to your favorite women artists (there a number of playlists that have been made by streaming services to give women their just due today). You can watch a movie or show led by ladies (Living SingleGirlfriends? The Favourite?). You can make a concerted effort to speak out about women’s issues in the fight for women’s rights. Or what about just celebrating by being, as Joseline Hernandez would say, the bad lil boosh that you are?

One way we’re choosing to observe the day (aside from showing love to working moms) is by seeking out quotes by amazing women about the power of women and the importance of embracing our voice and greatness. Feel free to share your own favorite quotes by your favorite women in the comments. In the mean time though, check out just a few of the many we love by hitting the flip.

“Any time women come together with a collective intention, it’s a powerful thing. Whether it’s sitting down making a quilt, in a kitchen preparing a meal, in a club reading the same book, or around the table playing cards, or planning a birthday party, when women come together with a collective intention, magic happens.”

“The woman power of this nation can be the power which makes us whole and heals the rotten community, now so shattered by war and poverty and racism. I have great faith in the power of women who will dedicate themselves whole-heartedly to the task of remaking our society.”

“Women have been trained in our culture and society to ask for what we want instead of taking what we want. We’ve been really indoctrinated with this culture of permission. I think it’s true for women, and I think it’s true for people of color. It’s historic, and it’s unfortunate and has somehow become part of our DNA. But that time has passed.”

“I try to impart to my daughter and my son [the knowledge that], we’re mind, body and soul; we’re spirit. The most important thing is, if it doesn’t feel right, that we’re able to utter ‘No, stop, can’t do it.’ Especially women: we want to please, we don’t want to be rude, we don’t want people to think ill of us, but you have to trust your voice.”
