Bill Would Ban Undocumented Students from Georgia Colleges
(Atlanta Business Chronicle) — Illegal immigrants would be banned from Georgia’s public colleges and universities under legislation pre-filed in the General Assembly by a Gwinnett County lawmaker. The bill, sponsored by Rep. Tom Rice, R-Norcross, would add postsecondary education to a list of public benefits subject to citizenship verification under immigration reform legislation passed by Georgia lawmakers several years ago. It would require the University System of Georgia to use a Web-based federal program to determine whether students applying for entry to any of the system’s 35 institutions are in this country legally.
