Lewis to Get Medal of Freedom
(AJC) — U.S. Rep. John Lewis of Atlanta and former President George H.W. Bush are among the 15 recipients of the 2010 Presidential Medal of Freedom, the nation’s highest civilian award, the White House announced Wednesday. Other recipients of this year’s award include notable figures such as German Chancellor Angela Merkel, poet Maya Angelou, billionaire investor Warren Buffett, cellist Yo Yo Ma and sports icons Bill Russell and Stan Musial. The medal is awarded to individuals who make an especially meritorious contribution to the United States, world peace, cultural or other significant public or private endeavors.
