Black Caucus Satisfied with Clyburn’s Role
(Washington Post) — After a meeting with House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, representatives of theCongressional Black Caucusindicated that they are inclined to support her plan to maintain her position. Rep. Emanuel Cleaver (D-Mo.) said he is satisfied that Minority Whip James E. Clyburn (S.C.), who will take the title “assistant leader” when Democrats become the minority in the next Congress, will continue to play a substantive role in the party’s leadership. Describing Clyburn’s job, Cleaver said “this is not a black position. Jim Clyburn is not put in this position to represent the CBC.”
