Georgia Consumers Stay Under Distress
(AJC) — Georgians continued to suffer above-average financial distress in the third quarter, according to the CredAbility Consumer Distress Index. Georgia scored 61.2 percent on the index’s 100-point scale, compared with 62 percent in the third quarter of 2009 and 61.4 [percent in the second quarter of 2010. A score below 70 indicates a state of financial distress. Overall, the quarterly index found incremental improvements in consumer financial health in the first half of 2010 were reversed in the third quarter due to weaker household budgets, renewed strains on housing costs and continued high levels of unemployment.
