Dish Network, News Corp’s Fox Reach Distribution Deal
(Dow Jones Newswires) — Dish Network Corp. (DISH) and News Corp. (NWS, NWSA) signed a programming agreement that ends a monthlong blackout of 19 sports channels on the satellite operator and prevents a possible disruption of local Fox broadcast stations starting Monday. The agreement was described as “long term” by the companies, but no financial terms were disclosed. News Corp. also owns Dow Jones & Co., publisher of this newswire and The Wall Street Journal. News Corp.’s Dish agreement comes as the blackout of Fox programming on cable operator Cablevision Systems Corp. (CVC) enters its third weekend. The settlement with Dish would seem to weaken Cablevision’s suggestion that News Corp. is taking hard stances against all television distributors.
