Quelling the Wave of Youth Violence
(Chicago Tribune) — As daylight faded, the kids on the corner of 77th Street and Coles Avenue joked and laughed, bumping and shoving each other in playful fights as older residents chatted with one another. One woman stepped forward and tapped a young boy on the shoulder. “Do you want to apologize?” said 63-year-old Hilda Brunt in a stern but gentle voice. The boy looked up with wide, surprised eyes. “I remember every incident that you disrespected me,” she told him.
