NYC Elections Board Bungles Ballot
(Wall Street Journal) — The New York City Board of Elections printed ballots that incorrectly instruct voters to fill in the oval “above or next to” their favored candidate’s name. The ovals on the ballot are neither above nor next to, but below the candidates’ names. This latest humiliation for the beleaguered Board of Elections comes on the heels of Mayor Michael Bloomberg describing the board’s handling of the Sept. 14 primary as a “royal screw-up” thanks to widespread problems caused by the introduction of new electronic voting machines. “We are rolling out a brand new voting system, a sizable job with a number of different elements, and unfortunately in some areas such as this we have made mistakes,” said Valerie Vazquez, a board spokeswoman.
