Everything You Need To Know About Push Gifts

There is a lot of commotion around soon-to-be mamas and their unborn child–from baby showers to gender reveals to baby moons. But now some people are adding another celebratory act to the delivery equation, push gifts!

Trusty online encyclopedia Wikipedia describes push gifts as: A push present (also known as a push gift, baby mama gift or baby bauble) is a present a father gives to the mother to mark the occasion of her giving birth to their child. In practice the present may be given before or after the birth, or even in the delivery room. The giving of push presents has supposedly grown in the United States in recent years. 

Rapper Papoose is the most recent celebrity to indulge in the act of push gifting, taking to social media with a throwback video of he and wife Remy Ma on an episode of Good Morning America. “@michaelstrahan I got that push present my brother!! 🙏🏾 Thanks for the great suggestion. The queen most definitely deserves it,” he captioned the video.

A survey conducted by babycenter.com found that more than 30,000 people, or 38 percent of new mamas received a gift for delivering a child.

“It’s more and more an expectation of moms these days that they deserve something for bearing the burden for nine months, getting sick, ruining their body,” Linda Murray, executive editor of BabyCenter.com, told People. “The guilt really gets piled on.”

Tennis champion Serena Williams inquired about “push gifts” shortly after she gave birth to her daughter. She asked her followers, “Ladies is a “push present” a thing? If so what did you get if anything? #conversationstarter”

The answers range from the luxurious to the sweet and simple, indicating that everyone should buy whatever they are comfortable with buying within their budget. There is no right or wrong answer!
