As the saying goes, love is blind, which means your feelings for someone can severely cloud your judgement when it comes to being able to discern whether that person is actually any good for you. While everyday women often fall for the okie doke when it comes to men who mean them no good, celebrity women aren’t immune to getting got by scammers and suspect individuals, as many high-profile ladies have shown in the past.

Angela Simmons

When the daughter of hip-hop royalty, Angela Simmons, began dating and eventually had a child with her recently deceased ex-fiance Sutton Tennyson, eyebrows raised to say the least. Tennyson had a storied past criminal history that included drug charges, domestic violence cases and lawsuits before he was murdered at his home last month after an argument with an acquaintance.

Nicki Minaj

Rapper Nicki Minaj has made headlines all throughout 2018 for her questionable behavior as it relates to the world of music and her feuds with her music industry peers. However, her personal life has also come under recent scrutiny, as she is currently dating Kenneth Perry, a man who is a registered sex offender with at least two prior convictions. Despite fans openly criticizing her choice to date someone with such a disturbing history, Minaj is currently still committed to the relationship — and even excusing Perry’s attempted rape charge.

Tasha Smith

Actress Tasha Smith’s marriage to her former husband Keith Douglas was like something out of one of the Tyler Perry movies that she frequently stars in. The five-year union, that ended in an annulment, was filled with physical abuse, embezzlement, infidelity and more.

Not only did Douglas have five other wives before marrying Smith, he is also a known fraud with a severely long criminal record, including tax evasion. Luckily for Smith, she was able to end things before her life was damaged beyond repair.

Phaedra Parks

You don’t have to search far into your memory to recall the tumultuous marriage between former Real Housewives of Atlanta star Phaedra Parks and her ex-husband (and current inmate) Apollo Nida.

From the very start the marriage was filled with drama, lies and deceit, as Nida was an ex-con when he met Parks. She acted as his lawyer and the two later married and had two sons. Although the couple officially divorced a few years ago, Nida is behind bars once again, serving an eight-year sentence for fraud. He is also engaged.

Teairra Mari

Love and Hip Hip Hollywood star Teairra Mari has had a very rough time the last few years, as she’s been plagued with alcohol addiction, failed record deals, severed friendships and toxic relationships…all in front of the camera.

Things got even worse for Mari earlier this year when she started dating a man named Akhbar who was widely thought to have been responsible for leaking an explicit sex tape of Mari. It was also revealed that he has multiple women living in his home and aimed to add Mari to the bunch.

Mary J. Blige

When it comes to celebrity divorces, few have been as nasty as that of R&B superstar Mary J. Blige and her ex-husband (and ex-manager) Kendu Issacs.

Throughout the brutal divorce proceedings, which are ongoing, it was revealed that Issacs was stealing money from Blige, evading taxes, having an affair with an artist on her record label, and more. Fortunately, the relationship is dead, but Blige will no doubt fill the financial impact for years to come.

Sheree Whitfield

It seems like the Real Housewives of Atlanta cast members tend to like men with criminal histories. In addition to former co-star Phaedra Parks, Sheree Whitfield also had a relationship with a man while he was in jail.

Tyrone Gilliams was the man that Whitfield was involved with during season 10 of the hit reality show, although recent reports claim the the relationship is over. Gillams is currently in jail serving a 10-year sentence for a $5 million Ponzi scheme.

Star Jones

Star Jones waited a long time to get married and when she wed Al Reynolds back in 2004, she though she found her happily ever after. It definitely didn’t end up that way, as the couple called it quits just fours years later.

The marriage ended mainly due to Reynolds keeping the fact that he is bisexual and had been in relationships with men in the past from the high-powered attorney. Jones has since remarried, she wed Ricardo Lugo in 2017.

Mimi Faust

During season three of VH1’s reality hit Love and Hip Hop Atlanta, series star Mimi Faust went public with her relationship with rapper/producer Nikko London. The relationship spawned the sex tape seen ’round the world and unveiled the shady dealings that London was involved in.

It was later revealed that while dating Faust, London was secretly married to another woman and initially orchestrated the sale of the sex tape to Vivid Entertainment.

Terry McMillan

We’ve all seen the classic film How Stella Got Her Groove Back about a 40-year-old woman (played by Angela Bassett) who enters into a steamy relationship with a 20-year-old man. Well, the writer of that story, Terry McMillian, based the content on her real-life circumstances at the time.

Unfortunately, the marriage to Jonathan Plummer ended in disaster when he admitted to McMillian that he is gay. McMillan confronted her ex about his lies while on Oprah Winfrey’s talk show, and she sued Plummer for $40 million by claiming that he launched a smear campaign against her and married her for U.S. citizenship.
