Farrakan’s ‘Million Man March’ 15 years later: Much Ado About Nothing
(theLoop21) — Saturday marks the 15th anniversary of the Million Man March and it makes me a little sad. It is definitely a moment in time you look upon and wonder what might have been if only the promise of that day had held true. I can’t believe how quickly 15 years has gone by, but most importantly, there isn’t much that came from the demonstration. After all of the buildup, controversy and ultimate success of the day, we don’t have a thing to show for it. Thinking back to October 1995, a lot of Black folks were celebrating back then. If you recall, the month started out with O.J. Simpson being acquitted for double murder in the trial of the century. For once, it was all about uplifting the race. Johnnie Cochran was The Man, and all was right with the world, seemingly. Of course a lot of us see things much differently now, but back then, there was the hope that things were improving.
