(Black News Web) — If you needed any more reason to see Broadway’s hottest musical, here’s another one. Ms. Patti Labelle has joined the cast of the award-winning critic’s darling “Fela!” on Broadway. The musical, directed and choreographed by Bill T. Jones and co-produced by luminaries Will and Jada Pinkett Smith and Jay-Z, is the story of controversial Nigerian musician Fela Anikulapo Kuti, one of Africa’s most amazing performers. Considered the Father of Afrobeat, Kuti would become both one of the continent’s most popular musicians as well as one of its most passionate activists.
