Judge Rules on SCLC Leadership
(AJC) — The winner in the fight for control over the Southern Christian Leadership Conference is a faction that months ago kicked out the then-chairman and the then-treasurer who are subjects of criminal investigations, according to a judge’s order issued Wednesday.
The messy fight between dueling SCLC Boards of Directors went from private telephone conversations and meetings late last year to competing news conferences. It went from dramatic steps of seizing control of the SCLC headquarters and bank accounts to the court battle in the spring.
Both sides in a court case that took more than a month to argue earlier in the summer hoped to have the final word. Judge Alford Dempsey ruled it belonged to the group that tried to push out the leaders under investigation.
