Planned Job Cuts by Illinois Employers Plummet in July
(Chicago Sun Times) — Planned job cuts announced by Illinois-based employers fell more than five-fold over the month in August, according to the latest report from Challenger, Gray & Christmas.
Employers announced plans to cut 448 jobs, down from 2,360 in July and from 2,878 in August 2009, the Chicago-based outplacement firm said today.
Nationally, announced cuts fell 17 percent over the month to 34,768, the lowest monthly total in more than a decade. Cuts were down 55 percent from August 2009, when they stood at 76,456. Employers have announced 374,121 job cuts through August, down 65 percent from the more than 1 million announced during the same period last year.
