Harlem’s Fashion Row held it’s 11th annual style awards and fashion show in partnership with Nike and it was one of the blackest events we’ve ever attended. While other runway shows look to Black people for their sense of cool and refuse to integrate them in meaningful ways this star studded event celebrated the culture on and off the runway. From the show beginning with dancers in Nike swaying to Sly and The Family Stone’s “Family Reunion” to Undra Celeste’s models rocking steady to Aretha Franklin to Kimberly Goldson reminding us that Brooklyn goes hard the musical moments were as unapologetically black as the organization. To top it all off DJ Olivia Dope played the crowd out to Luther Vandross’ “Never Too Much.” Iconic.
