7 Of The Blackest Things At Harlem's Fashion Row This Season

Harlem’s Fashion Row held it’s 11th annual style awards and fashion show in partnership with Nike and it was one of the blackest events we’ve ever attended. While other runway shows look to Black people for their sense of cool and refuse to integrate them in meaningful ways this star studded event celebrated the culture on and off the runway. Check out 7 of the blackest moments from this #NYWFNOIR event filled evening below.

1. The Tumbleweave

Backstage was a blur as celebrity stylist Ursula Stephen created flawless full looks with synthetic wigs and the floor was filled with the evidence of the strands that never got to strut down the runway. 

2. The Music

From the show beginning with dancers in Nike swaying to Sly and The Family Stone’s “Family Reunion” to Undra Celeste’s models rocking steady to Aretha Franklin to Kimberly Goldson reminding us that Brooklyn goes hard the musical moments were as unapologetically black as the organization. To top it all off DJ Olivia Dope played the crowd out to Luther Vandross’ “Never Too Much.” Iconic.

4. The Reference Lebron Made To Steak-ums

The basketball superstar thanked his wife for shooting in the gym with him when they were forced to eat the hood delicacy. 

5. The Date

The event was held on Beyonce’s Birthday and the theme of Kimberly Goldson’s power suit filled collection was “Formation.” Need we say more?

6. The Stylists Matching Their Tools To Their Accessories

Some of the hair stylists on deck were so committed to standing out that they blinged out their tools. Our people are extra and we love them for it.
