Be wary of warming lube

A lot of lubricants are designed to heat up while you use them. That can be good most of the time, but not when it’s already too hot. Make sure to get lube that doesn’t heat up upon contact.

Try doing it in a cold shower. Even if shower sex isn’t usually your thing, it may be worth trying when it’s just too hot out. You can involve a shower chair that you both sit in (your partner sitting on it normally, and you straddling him) to stabilize you.

Early in the morning

The early hours of the morning are the coolest during the hot summer months. So set your alarms and do the deed at 6am.

Freshen up down there

It’s always important to clean yourself down-south before sex but it’s especially important during the hot summer months. Even if you already showered earlier that day, do one more rinse right before sex—sweat and odors collect fast on your vagina. Or use one of these methods to keep things fresh.

90-degree angles

If your bodies form a 90-degree angle, then all that should be touching is your, well, important parts. In other words, learn to love doggy style.

Right after a cold shower

If doing it in the shower isn’t your thing, then just take a shower, and have sex immediately after. The trick is to take a cold shower though, and then to have sex directly in front of a fan. This will further cool the water droplets on your body.

A stay-cation

If things get desperate, you can always book a little weekend getaway at a reasonable hotel or AirBnb in town. Just make sure that they have air conditioning. You can go bang it out—literally—and tie yourselves over for a few weeks.

Standing up

The fewer things touching your skin, the better. So try standing up positions. If you have a pull-up bar in a doorframe, you’ll find this to be very useful.

On marble

Marble and steel are some of the coolest materials. If you have marble floors in the kitchen or bathroom, or marble or tile countertops, do the deed on these.

Obviously you’ll need to have an enclosed balcony or you could have an indecent exposure charge on your hands. But if you have a private balcony, try doing it out there late at night when the heat has burned off.

If you’d prefer not to involve ice cubes, you can involve frozen fruit. You can feed each other sexy, cool foods or eat them off of each other.

If you have access to a swimming pool, and can get into a private area right after, try having sex then. You’ll be nice and refreshed from your swim.

Use steel toys

Don’t use rubber toys when it’s hot out. They just get warm and sticky. Get steel toys and (and this is important) keep them in a cool place. In cool places, they get cooler, but in warm places, they get hotter.

Get lighter bedding

It may be time to swap out your bedding. Jersey sheets are super cozy, but they’re also quite hot. Silk can get sweaty and doesn’t breathe. Switch to bamboo cotton sheets and moisture-wicking materials.
