Tourists Bite into the Big Apple
(Crain’s) — The city’s tourism industry is well on its way to a full recovery, reported city and state officials, who gathered at City Hall Wednesday to announce the $1.2 billion Delta Terminal expansion project.
Preliminary data shows that 23.5 million visitors came to the Big Apple in the first half of this year, an 8.7% increase over the same period last year. The city’s tourism bureau, NYC & Co. said New York is on track to host approximately 47.5 million visitors, 4.2% more than last year, by the end of 2010.
“The first half has been particularly strong and our early projections show a return to record breaking visitation levels,” said George Fertitta, chief executive of NYC & Co.
