Most of us have experienced some form of stress in our lives, but if it starts to physically, mentally and emotionally affect you on a regular basis, then you need to take heed to your lifestyle and make some immediate changes.

If you’re unsure if what you’re experiencing is stress related or a result of general ailments and mood shifts, then you should read on and check out our tips for the warning signs. The positive thing about suffering from stress is that it can easily be rectified with some lifestyle adjustments.

You’re Having Trouble Sleeping

You could be a night owl. You could work irregular hours. Your electronic devices could be interrupting your flow. Those are a few common reasons for random bouts of insomnia, but when it’s stress-related it’s much more intense.

When you’re under intense stress you simply can’t let yourself relax long enough to sleep peacefully and uninterrupted. Surely you’re aware of the many dangers of getting inadequate rest, so it’s crucial that you make changes to relieve yourself of anything stressful and get the proper rest your need.

You’ve Lost Your Appetite

Some days you may not feel like eating anything and that’s perfectly fine, but it becomes a problem when you’re finding that you have to force yourself to eat anything on a regular basis.

Stress often brings on the feeling of your stomach being in knots, which causes you to refrain from eating, so you need to get to the root of what has you so stressed out and find ways to eliminate the burdens around you.

You’ve Distanced Yourself From Family And Friends

When you’re really stressed out you tend to want to be all alone and suffer in silence, however that’s probably one of the worst things you can do. It’s fine to take some time to yourself, but to completely shut out those who love you is not the way to go.

Give yourself a few days (or even a few weeks if you need) and then start interacting with your friends and family again. Whether you need them to get your mind off things or just be a sounding board while you vent, having a loving circle around you helps in stressful times.

Your Attitude Has Changed For The Worse

We all get in our moods every once and awhile, but if you’ve recognized that you have a bad attitude all of the time when it wasn’t that way previously, then you need to think about what stressful situations are causing you to act this way.

Getting to the root of your stress is imperative because no one wants to be around someone who always has a nasty attitude. If you need some space to figure things out before you interact with others, then by all means do that so you don’t run the risk of ruining relationships permanently.

You’re Overly Emotional

Are you crying at the drop of a hat? Getting angry for no reason? Feeling sad all the time? These are some of the tell-tale signs that your stress level is causing you to be overly emotional.

When your emotions are all over the place you may feel like you’re in a hopeless place, but don’t worry because once you rid yourself of any and everything that is stressing you out, you’ll be fine.

You Have Constant Headaches

A hard day’s work, dealing with your kids or tackling relationship issues can easily bring on a splitting headache, but if you are seriously suffering from them on a daily basis then there is a problem…and it could be stress.

Examine everything that’s going on in your life and ask yourself which of those things is currently stressing you out. Once you identify the culprit(s) you can then proceed to make the necessary changes to feel better.

You’re Always Depressed

Depression is not an abnormal occurrence, as many of us have suffered from it at some point. However, the difference is that while most people are depressed for a bit due to circumstance, they quickly get out of it. When you are severely stressed it’s not that easy.

Another reason why you have to make being stress-free a priority, is because side effects like depression can worsen if they are not addressed in a timely manner and that can cause a host of other serious problems.

Your Menstrual Cycle Is Out Of Whack

A woman’s menstrual cycle is a very tricky and tedious thing, with even the smallest lifestyle change effecting it. Stress is also one of those things. If your stress level is high enough, your period can stop altogether for a few months, pop up sporadically or go on longer than normal.

The most important thing you have to do is take a deep breath and address what has you stressing out so badly. It won’t happen overnight, but once the stress is gone your cycle should return to normal. If it doesn’t, then seek the advice of a medical professional.

You Suffer From Chronic Pain

Backaches, migraines, abdominal pain, body soreness, these are just some of the symptoms of a person suffering from chronic pain…and they all can be related to stress.

The best thing to do is to get checked out by your doctor to make sure that nothing else is wrong with your health. Once you’re cleared and you figure out that it must be stress, take matters into your own hands and work things out. Aside from changing your lifestyle, working out and eating a more balanced diet can also help you rid yourself of chronic pain.

You’re Eating/Drinking Your Feelings

When we’re stressed, many of us seek the comfort of our vices to make us feel better. This includes overeating and drinking too much alcohol. If the people in your life have been dropping hints and making comments about your increased eating or drinking habits, it might be time for you to look in the mirror and ask yourself what’s going on.

Find out why you’re self-medicating and bingeing on things that should be consumed in moderation. After you’ve faced the issues that are making you stress to the point of overeating and increased drinking, then you can slowly pull yourself away and get back to being healthy physically, mentally and emotionally.
