Record Number of Illinois Families Getting Food Stamps
(Chicago Sun Times) — The stagnant economy and double-digit unemployment rates in parts of Illinois have led to a record number of families getting food stamps, the state reported Tuesday.
During June, 786,162 households across Illinois took part in the federally-subsidized SNAP food-stamp program, which marks an 11.9 percent jump over levels from a year ago, according to the Illinois Department of Human Services.
