President Obama: "Men Have Been Getting On My Nerves Lately."

President Obama visited Africa for first time since leaving the White House. After visiting his sister in his father’s hometown of Kogelo, Kenya, President Obama traveled to Johannesburg, South Africa where he delivered a speech honoring Nelson Mandela.

During the speech, Obama said something quite a few of us have been thinking and feeling for some time now.

“Women in particular—by the way—I want you to get more involved because men have been getting on my nerves lately. Every day I read the newspaper, and I just keep thinking—brothers, what’s wrong with you guys? What’s wrong with us? We’re violent. We’re bullying. Just you know, not handling our business. I think empowering more women on the continent is going to, right away lead to some better policies.”

Amen. From #MeToo, to the everyday news stories of the abuses men inflict on women, to the politicians, who are mostly male, abusing their power, there is no shortage of examples of men behaving badly—often at the expense of not only women but entire nations.

Naturally, there were more than a few people who understood Obama’s sentiments.
