Mayor Says $500 Million Can Be Saved Yet Not Harm Services
(New York Times) — Mayor Michael R. Bloomberg announced a plan Monday to consolidate and modernize portions of New York City’s government that he said would save taxpayers $500 million over the next four years and $500 million more each year after, all without cutting services. The plan would shrink five areas in the city’s back-office operations: human resources, real estate management, fleet management, collections and information technology. Here are some highlights…
